Okay, why are Australia getting free runs?!
Ah, "meanwhile, Australia's quest for salvation received an unexpected boost, with the news that they had been awarded an extra four runs for a no-ball that sailed away to the boundary last night, but went unsignalled by umpire Steve Bucknor. Australia now need just 31 runs to avoid the follow-on".

At least I now have something to put in my match report.

acredited against who?
Looks like it was Jones' beamer. Bucknor was so busy telling him off he forgot to signal the extras.

Great to see all this rain, BTW. Although I just read that it's stopped momentarily and the groundstaff are out there with the supersoppers.... Nooooo.....

main belt of rain should have cleared the ground now, its just a case of avoiding the showers. Doubt it will dry enough tbh

But it was a no ball...... from my knowledge if a no ball goes for four it counts as 5 no balls against the bowler.
Correct. Law 24.13: Runs resulting from a No ball - how scored

The one run penalty for a No ball shall be scored as a No ball extra. If other penalty runs have been awarded to either side, these shall be scored as in Law 42.17 (Penalty runs). Any runs completed by the batsmen or a boundary allowance shall be credited to the striker if the ball has been struck by the bat; otherwise they also shall be scored as No ball extras.

Apart from any award of a 5 run penalty, all runs resulting from a No ball, whether as No ball extras or credited to the striker, shall be debited against the bowler.

So...

So why has it been acredited as byes?

Bloody Dean Jones.

How's this...

Someone emailed the SBS studio commentary team, asking if the Australian follow-on total would be increased by 50 runs as the game had been reduced to a 4 day affair if there was no play at all today. Dean Jones responds that 200 is always the follow-on mark in test cricket, which is blatantly false, as it is reduced to 150 if the first day is washed out.

 Didn't know that myself. Love seeing Dean Jones make an idiot of himself.

I loved how he went on for 10 minutes last year during the India-Aus series that Aus were the holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, only for polite Sanjay Manjrekar to correct him :p
