Flintoff throws it away, bat responsibly for an hour then do that 7 minutes before lunch with Gillespie getting annihilated - just utterly stupid.

Flintoff's dismissal manages to look even more utterly pathetic now - the utter buffoon could have batted the convicts out of the game.

Well I can't say the rain helped England, put it that way. As you point out, gives the Aussies a chance to regroup and keep the two more potent pace bowlers on, while Flintoff and Jones need to get their eye in again.
Yet for some reason they came out and hit 35 in 3 and a half overs.

Vital wicket there. Good piece of bowling, and that keeps Australia within sight. Hopefully 460 or 470 will be as serious as it gets now.
Stupid batting so close to lunch - just when Flintoff appears to have got himself sorted out and batting well he does that.

Strange session

Bell does nothing to dispel doubters

Aus bowls rubbish

Flintoff plays like a tail-ender for much of the time

Gearaint misses a straight one

Wicket has more in it than Aus have displayed IMO

Both Flintoff and KP seemed to only have one thing in mind - "slog."

Mindless dismissal.
From where I'm sitting (at my desk at work, watching the game on Cricinfo BbB) it seems that you are dead right. I'm not sure why the pair of them had to keep the foot on the gas so close to lunch - so often this series, England have had problems in the last over or two before the end of a session.

Still, I'm hopeful that England can make far better use of the track and the conditions later today (with a bit of luck I'll get to watch an hour or so in the bar at the airport).

They are constantly competing with each other to see who can hit better, if it pays off then it is good for England, otherwise it is stupid and they should focus on their own game.

...and Gillespie gets an undeserved wicket to end the session.
Sorry, but how was that undeserved?

To tell you the truth, I think - while not bowling fantastic during all of the summer, and still not bowling well enough to keep his spot - that in the main Gillespie hasn't been bowling as bad as his figures have ended up. Then he goes and wrecks it with 3 or 4 overs for 30 odd and his figures get screwed.

Mark Waugh and Michael Slater made comments to the effect that both of these players now had the difficulty of contending with the public's expectations as well as the Aussies.

Both played at a ridiculous rhythm and got themselves out.

Rough with the smooth. If i had a criticism it would be that Flintoff tried to get after Warne when Gillespie was going at ten an over at the other end. I don't see that the fact a lunch break was approaching had any real relevance.

He always does that.

It's just usually he is just lucky enough to get away with it.

Had a hundred there for the taking but took every bait Aus gave him.

Missed hooks with two fielders back.

Skied one with EVERYONE out.

Yes, I agree, his batting was rubish.
