had a great day yesterday but very sore this morning, the weather forecasters predicting heavy showers got it wrong thankfully. Was sat near some Aussies, with a 'Warne wicket count 600' banner so i think i might have sneaked on the tele at one point. Crowd got quite lively as the day went on and you had to feel for Gillespie as he took a frightfull hammering with massive chorus' of where's you're caravan and there's only on gippo. Though the one i liked was the 'keep him on' one. When Lee was out he had a bit of banter with the crowd and seemed to enjoy it.

Sorry but I can't "feel sorry" for Dizzy. It's his fault he's bowling tripe. He's tormented English batsmen for ages, and I doubt he "felt sorry" for any of them. Just 'cos he looks sad doesn't mean he's about to cry, he's a tough lad and it's a tough sport.

Imagine if he was English and playing in Aus, the stick he'd take on the boundry rope would be incredible.

No, I respect him but don't feel sorry for him and I don't think he'd want me to.

Well I wouldn't have minded anyone getting bowled out this first hour, always a chance of getting out with the new ball, but that was just rubbish from Bell. Looks like he's had another rough decision tho.

I made the comment based on Boycott's initial statement.

He then went into detail about it being in preference to a batsman, which I disagree with.
So how else do you fit an extra bowler in the side?

Drop the keeper instead?

If Bell goes on to get a fifty I don't see the Aussie's giving much congratulations this time.
They respect good play, not massive luck.

So that'll be why he got congratulations from behind the wicket when he got there then...

There's no doubt in my mind either that Shane Warne has one of the best tactical cricket brains anywhere. You can see it in his bowling, as well as in his leadership when he gets the opportunity.
It amazes me that someone who is so clever when he steps inside the ropes is so stupid outside them.

And I still don't see the point in Hoggard being night/watchman. Surely there are better options?
Hoggard is IMO just about the perfect candidate - time and again he comes in and does the job.

The only other potential would be Giles - but it depends how much of his batting you want. He can bat reasonably properly, whereas Hoggard will just block it.

Yesterday Hoggard was perfect because if he could have stuck about this morning and saw the new ball off that would have been great - scoring wouldn't have mattered too much. But in a lot of situations you need someone who can score some runs the next day, I think in the last match Hoggard's lack of scoring the next morning got to the other batsman (Tresco) - it shouldn't but I think it did.

I'd definitely nominate Hoggard as the night watchman, at least Giles has some decent shots and can contribute with runs from time to time - better saved for batting with a decent batsmen in a decent situation.
