Three drops in the match for pietersen now. Reminds awfully of Clarke's start... great fielder, batted well in his first test, but put down a bunch of catches.

Good session for Australia. 93 runs, only a couple of wickets, and in the context of the match that puts them right on top. If Australia score 300 in their second innings they win, so 3/140 is a good place to be with Katich and Gilchrist to come. Only Harmison is bowling really well for England, and he's wicketless.

He's been bowling quite well yeah, but not brilliantly, too many loose balls to go with the good ones, like Jones. Hoggard hasn't done much in either spell, and Jones has bowled some rippers and a pile of crap. Giles two fairly harmless overs, not getting much turn.

Why not bowl Giles around the wicket.

Doesn't look dangerous early at all.
Giles never seems to bowl around the wicket. He just floats it into the footmarks and tries to get batsmen out trying to hit him against the spin... standard giles dismissal is when someone tries to hit him out of the rough and miss it due to the spin, or simply play an awkward shot and get caught.

Like when he clean bowled Lara last summer. I can see the same thing happening to Gilchrist.

He got quite a few LBWs against South Africa last year bowling around the wicket.

Clarke looking really good. Playing Giles with absolute ease really... innocuous left-arm spin isn't the way to get him out.

Did he? I missed a bit of that series because I went interstate, when I came back he wasn't bowling due to injury, so I'm mostly going on last English summer and before.

So nice of Vaughan to put on and keep on the 2 of the 3 easiest bowlers Australia could hope to face on this pitch as they give away run after run straight after the tea break.
