Though those times are usually widely spaced...

Mainly because the times he has the new ball are widely spaced?

Is it an argument that if he's not going to take the new ball, he doesn't play?

The key phrase being 'at times' Gillespie almost always looks dangerous with the new-ball. There's nothing worse as a captain than seeing someone who's quick but inconsistent concede 5-an-over with the new-ball, unless that results in quite a few wickets, which it most certainly doesn't with Brett Lee most times. Gillespie is a FAR superior new-ball bowler than Brett Lee right now and other than the pace issue (though Gillepie is hardly slow), there's very little justification for your assertion that Brett Lee uses the new-ball better.
No he allways bowls well with the new ball I said looks deadly at times but he always bowles well with it (comparitivly speaking)

You sort of took my post out of context.

Back to England...

I haven't seen the highlights yet so I can't comment too much (on the Aussie catching..) but at least Butcher and Hussain put on plenty for the third wicket. We could have done without losing three late on, mind.

Stewart and Crawley need to put on another 50+ at least and then the tail all need to contribute. I think we can make 380+ and have a real chance here, especially if it's swinging for Hoggard.

Oh yeah, and Stewart's got Chicken Pox... :(

With my realistic hat on, so do I, but hey, this is Cricket

Anything can happen!

Whyso?

Dawson has consistently through his career shown he can hang around, as has Hoggard in recent times.

Caddick can play well when in the mood, so that just leaves Harmison.

If one of Stewart or Crawley can bat through, they can make a score.

Oh, and Rich, I believe the score at the scheduled close of play was 240-4! ;)

It's a bit amazing that Stewart hasn't had chicken pox before in the 40 years of his life.:)
That's typical of what's happened this tour I'm afraid. He must be embarrassed.

Well how am I supposed to say that he should? In all the Tests against England (which are the only Tests I've seen him play in) he's been fast but not much else...

Well, he certainly took the New Ball well, and I was actually being serious when I suggested it should be new ball or nothing (but then again I feel Aus don't have another quality quick to come in)

Incidentally, there's rumours his action was a little wrong on the first day...

GET OVER HIS ACTION

anyway englands start could all go to waste if Crawly and stewart get out early this morning and i certainly hope that happens cause i think that would effectiveley kill that match as the SCG becomes more of a bowlers wicket the more the match goes on

2 points.

First it was the radio commentators saying he looked suspect, both Australians and English, so no I will not "Get over his action"

Second - if it becomes more of a bowlers match as time goes on, how is it going to kill the match if they get out early?

Well England are 313-5 and Stewart and Crawley have put on 73 for the 6th Wicket and MacGill is close to bringing up his ton without a Wicket as yet...some dead match!

So? At full pace or even on some replays, most guys look suspect. I mean that moronic NZ comentator a few months ago was saying how badly he thought Akhtar chucked yet in the study done in WA, it was shown how he doesn't chuck but in fact his arm hyper-extends 40 degrees, quite the opposite process. Brett Lee's action is the same. The appearance of him chucking on replays is an optical illusion, same as Akhtar.

Just because both Aussies and English are saying he's doubtful doesn't mean they can't both be morons.

Well England are 313-5 and Stewart and Crawley have put on 73 for the 6th Wicket and MacGill is close to bringing up his ton without a Wicket as yet...some dead match!
Alec Stewart is looking a million bucks right now. I've just watched a bit on TV and whilst Bichel is giving a lot of crap to belt away, he's still looking REALLY good.

Muahahahaha................IT WORKED!!!!!!

Seriously, that's a shame because he really was looking good for a big ton. He'll be angry at himself.
