Yup but he's got to improve. Anyway to say England has no talent is a stupid remark. India are looking at Bangar for an all-rounder and England have found Flintoff and Irani, not bad eh?

If one doesn't have a good allrounder it doesn't mean a team is weak, i mean Aus have been struggling to find a good allrounder since a long time!

England have 2-3 good players, the rest???

yeah enland have abit of talent, Trescothick and Vaughn, they are not the best batsmen in the world but they are pretty good i must say, Kirtley looked good in the Aus A game as well
Before he arrived in Australia, Trescothick was in superb form, but he just seems to have forgotten his shots so far this tour...all he seems to do is cut and all Australia do is pack the Gully or put a floating 4th or 5th slip in and grab the catches...

I think Trescothick is a bit of a Matthew Sinclair..

Australia have worked both of them out, yet they score alot of runs against the other nations.

Again, England have Nick Knight who averages over 40 with the bat in nearing 90 ODIs, they have Trescothick who is one of the most exciting ODI openers in the world, and one of the fastest scoring. Then they have Irani and Flintoff with Blackwell in Reserve. They have Stewart who is a very good batsman batting down at 6-7 and they have players like Kirtley, Shah and Batty who provide a glimse of the future.

Oh come on....aren't you tired of making these lame excuses? It was a pathetic performance by a completely demoralised team. All the talk of unscarred(mentally, I mean) youngsters making a difference to the one day side has not borne out by facts atleast.
Our team included 3 specialist batsmen and the rest were bits and pieces players - come the ODI series I expect to see at least another 2 proper batsmen come in, and that will strengthen the line-up considerably.

i would hardly say that trescothick is one of the most exciting openers in the world when you got people like Gilly and Shewag around (not to mention Kalu as well whos coming for the VB series)

i'd have to agree, Trescothick did nothing in the 5 match ODI series here in March to show he was attacking.

I reckon its Vaughan who looks more attacking. As for exciting openers..i'd have to pick Sehwag, Gilchrist & Jayasuriya.

And then on a lower level..Astle, Gibbs & Ganguly.

I can when you see he's scored 3 ODI Centuries at over a run a ball (4 in all). And Tim, you didn't see him at anywhere near his best in NZ but then every player has his bad series, I mean look at Gilly lately? Drop of 2 runs off his ODI batting average...Sehwag averages about 34 or sommit...Ganguly is looking ratty at the top of the order and his average is dropping too. Tresco in form is a very aggressive batsmen even in Tests, and other than when he went to NZ and now in Australia, he's been in tremendous form for a few years. He is exciting though, he tries to score at at least a run a ball in ODI games and if you saw how easily he and Vaughan scored the 50 runs to win the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka earlier this year in about 4 overs then you would know what I'm talking about. Maybe he's not as exciting as Astle or Sehwag but this guy averages 41 in Tests and 38 in ODIs too with a Strike Rate of 88.75, that is a lot of runs per balls faced. It's the speed in which he scores his runs which is the reason why he is exciting and he also tries for 6s quite often...although I've never seen him intentionally slog.

Vaughan has only started to bat positively in NZ and still has done little of note in the ODI game.

Yeah Gayle is building a good reputation.
But then I could argue that Gayle did nothing in the Natwest Series in England 2 years ago, except a few wickets with his Off-Spin. Also a duck in his only Test Apperance. Also he struggled badly in Sri Lanka :P

Rik, Ganguly's batting avg. is increasing and not decreasing. His avg. in the last couple of yrs increased from 42.5 to 44 .

Well when he arrived in England it was 44, when he left it was 43.5, I call that a decrease

Trescothik is a very good player. And he has the ability to play pacy and exciting innings. Infact, he was more consistent in doing that. I remember some of his innings against Pakistan.

His current average is 43.6 which is not exactly what you would call rotting away. For good measure, his average over his last 10 matches is 55.71. Kind of puts your assertion that he is on the decline in perspective, doesn't it?

I think one of England's better players is their captain. He may not be the most talent in the world but he tries hard for his team, he really tries which is good to see...especially from the captain. When the going gets tough...

Yes, Nasser is a fighter whatever you may say of him and is mentally the toughest in the English side.

That was just one series. Ganguly has been very consistent in one dayers throughout his career. He can be allowed the occasional hiccup, can't he?...and he has since recovered from that.

Fair enough then. It's just that whenever I've seen him play he's looked very likely to get out during most of his innings. You draw conclusions from what you see...as Mr Mxyzptlk would probably say
