Catches win matches, ladies and gentlemen - so where's the best catcher in the game when you need him??? Playing backyard cricket with some pussies down in Tasmania. If Mark was playing, I reckon England would be 7 or 8 down by stumps....

Hmmmmm but Waugh fields in the slips and I can't really remember any catches dropped in the slips at least before I went to sleep just after the players came in for the 2nd session...so I really doubt Waugh would have made much of a difference...

The Aussies have been uncharacteristically sloppy in the field. Five dropped catches in one day, they usually don't drop that much in a series. Anyway, England should really take advantage of these let-offs and pile on atleast 450+ from here on which will at the very least ensure that they won't lose this game and hope that Aussies carry their complacency on to their batting too.

If Butcher and Stewart can carry on till say, 375+, the tail should be able to push it beyond 400.

Ok actually yeah Mark Waugh would probably have caught those catches off Steve Waugh and Shane Warne which Martyn and Warne should have caught...

This is Alec Stewart we're talking about though!

I dread to think what he would have done had Vaughan been injured and he'd opened the innings!

We need Stewart and Butcher to go on to fifties, then for White to contribute - all three are due runs.

Dawson's not a bad bat, and Caddick and Hoggard are fighters. 450+ is realistic... then some early wickets.

Come on England!

Marc I heard that as well and Foster would have come in as a batsman. However don't you thing that had the situation come up that England would have simply moved R.Key to opener (afterall that's his main job)... pushed Stewart up one place to 5 and Foster come in at 6. (Butcher - 3, Nasser - 4)

I agree Neil

Everyone is saying Stewart is past it after his pair @ the GABA... but remember he has been in good form over the summer (both international & with Surrey) and he was very very unlucky with how he got out in the 2nd inngs (hit hayden). Also he has the advantage that his weakness against spin early in his inngs is very unlikly to be tested, so Warne probley wont be bought into the attack until about the 15th over of the day...so he should have his eye in by then.

England were a little fortunate during day 1 but you must take advantage of such situations like Hayden did in the first test.

Vaughan was pretty lucky not to be given out caught by Langer but the Aussies can't really complain as none of them would have walked either.

WArne has never been a great slip fielder. He'll take the easy ones and a couple of the hard ones. Yesterdays were difficult but should have been caught. He stands too deep and has had the benefit of Mark Waugh and Gilchrist diving in front of him for years.

England should get 400+ but a collapse can never be discounted.

Butcher and White gone early.... 400 looks to be a tough target for Eng now.

And its a procession now....325/8.

Well England have got the Aussies on the back foot just after tea (140/2) in a tough period of bowling just before tea saw the pressure mount on the aussie's but they managed to come through the tough time with the batsman looking less comfortable and Dawson has found the outside edge a few times now, but the ball going safe, and a decsion turned down for a catch at short leg. S.Harmision's pace has also caused the Aussie batsman problems, however he hasn't bowled in right place enough.

The match is evenly balanced at present, if this pair develops much more then with the batsman still to come could fly past England's score however if England can get the pair broken then with S.Waugh still not in great touch the game could turn right back into England's control.
