Agreed with almost everything Chris says :O

1) Three regions instead of six. It would still be too weak otherwise and too many local grudge matches lost
7) Expand. Technical orthodoxy isn't everything.

[Suggestions

1) Scrap Central Contracts but have 6 regional teams in place so they can play against each other therefore the system will be better, with a feeder system from the County game

The Likes s of Caddick, Vaughan, Butcher could play this week in week out and it could be a Better test for them
Stupid suggestion - they wouldn't be able to play week in week out because of the number of International Fixtures - and scrapping Central Contracts will just lead to them playing too much and burning out or getting injured.

5) Give Terry Jenner more Money to coach leg-spinners and tell the coaches to understand them and Encourage them to the max!
they are brilliant leggies in the system but are not used or given the chance to shine, Warne consided 10 off 1 over in the test but Waugh had faith and left him on it would not happen over here we are too defensive in the county for too many years
How many times do I have to say this - just because some nations have a leg spinner does not mean that we have to have one - the conditions in England mean that for the majority of the year these bowlers will not be needed.

6) Keep the Acadamy as it will work with more chance but have England A in the Summer and play against other Touring Counties i dont underatnd why we did not have that.
The Academy is in effect England A - having both would IMO be overkill and would again lead to the burn out of players. The reason we never played England A vs. the tourists was that the majority of teams are playing CC games at the same time.

Can England recover from this devastating blow? Briefly during the 2nd day of the first test, they showed that they can stay with the Australians, but one day of a 5 day match is just not going to be enough. The Aussies are not going to give them easy matches, they have to take what chances they get and try and pressurise their opponents. Easier said than done. Unless the Aussies get bored or complacent the score line looks like 5-0, 4-0 or 4-1.

Yes but if we had an England A team playing the tourists then it would stop Counties fielding weak sides like the seem to be doing a lot lately. Also it would help young players like Kirtley to show that not only can they do it at CC level but also against a full touring side...

Got this in am email today.............

I particularly like the Harmison one. :D

Following the crushing defeat of Pakistan, the International Cricket Council has imposed a new set of rules for the up coming Ashes series to make the contest more even.

1) As a result, England has been granted an automatic wickie, freeing up wicket keeper Alex Stewart to defend the boundary. Under the rule, Australian batsmen will be deemed out "caught behind" if the ball nicks their bat and lands in the immediate area behind the wicket. The rule is a compromise from the original English proposal which had
pushed for automatic slips as well. The ICC refused that request on the grounds that "someone has to go and get the ball when an Australian misses it."

2) In addition, Australia is under strict "tip and run" restrictions which require they take a run off every ball they hit. Steve Waugh was happy to accept this, as it meant no change to his current game plan. As a compromise, it was agreed that the Australians will also have to shout
out the word "wickets" when completing a run to make run out decisions by umpires easier.

3) Following his outstanding performances, Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has "six and out" Restrictions imposed on him. As well,
following complaints from English fielders, Gilchrist will have to get the ball if it goes across the road.

4) Instead of using a bat, Matt Hayden will now be obliged to use his arm with his jumper wrapped around it.

5) New rules for England include "one hand, one bounce" while they are
fielding, and the provision of "last man carries" when they are batting.

6) The English tried to extend the "can't get out first ball" provision to "can't get out first ten overs", but the ICC proclaimed that the extra runs gained would hardly be worth the effort. Australian captain Steve Waugh has vigorously opposed the "last man
carries" rule and has launched an appeal. Waugh says Australia will only agree to the rule if there are electric wickets at the end, allowing Aussie fielders to throw to the stumps at either end.

7) A spokesperson for the ICC also announced that following six
successive ducks "from now on Craig White can't get out for a duck".

8) English pace bowler Andy Caddick will also be allowed to wrap the ball's seam with electrical tape when he's bowling in the second innings.

9) The spokesperson added there will be "no LB" for English batsmen unless "it is really, really obvious."

10) Shane Warne has conceded that its "fair enough" that he has to bowl underarm (but not molly grubbers) to the English tail end.

11) If England decides that Steven Harmison is to be given an over,
the umpire will deem the Australian batsmen as dismissed if Harmison
lands the ball anywhere on the pitch. Captain Steve Waugh has no problems with this change, as the probability of such a dismissal occurring is infinitesimally small.

Despite the changes, Australia remains firm favourites going into the Ashes Series, paying $0.22, while an English win is currently paying $13 trillion.

mentally England have put themselves firmly on the back foot following their loss...

my pre match perception was that this would be their best chance at catching the Aussies out - the English top order had all shown some form in the home series v India, and with Australia having Gillespie not at 100%, Lee dropped & the recent dropping of M Waugh & the pressure on Steve to perform.

Admittedly they were always going to be at a disadvantage with the brain explosion to put Australia in ).....followed by the early loss of Jones (I believe you should play to your strength which for England was their batting form, unless the pitch will be an abvious minefield first off - even if it will break up & take alot of spin you must plan to bat for a big 1st innings & not bat again or chase very little).

However both these factors must surely be relegated in the post match analysis, as a result of their capitulation in their 2nd innings, which has now underminned their 'strength' and possibly hidden their 'weakness' - their persistantly poor line & especially their length being at least 1 - 2 metres short!!!!!

IMO the English top & middle order showed more consistancy in their first innings than Australia - the problem was they failed to have anyone score a big hundred after everyone got a start!!!!!

Take a leaf out of NZ's 1st innings v Australia in the Perth Test - if the pitch is true leave anything outside off stump - this is McGrath's 'corridor of death' - make them bowl to you - a battle of wills & not pretty - but you must compete & not allow them to dictate. Australia only go into any Test with 4 recognised bowlers - if you can frustrate them or tire them they have no one of real ability to cover / spell them & then they are in trouble!!!!!

I still have question marks about Langer's performance - I think Hayden makes him look better than he is.....just as I still have questions regarding their batting in the middle / lower order....

IMO England (& everyone else) needs to nullify Hayden & get Ponting in early.....Langer will score quickly but he will offer a chance at the same time - Ponting is just as vulnerable as everyone else when the ball is still 'new' & can be got out early because he will play shots....
Martyn can be tied down & appears in no hurry to score early in his innings, Waugh is not in the best of form etc.....
bottom line = the key is how they play Hayden & then Ponting at the top of the order, & then the batsmen must at least try to assert their will on the bowlers re line bowled etc!!!!

All of these facts are well known. England's think tank would have analysed all these situations. Unfortunately, they always fail miserably in the implementation part. The script gets lost, the actors forget their lines....the end result is becoming predictably boring.

Cant bear to watch the English suffering no more ...
Only if the batsmen come and rescue the team which might seem the only way a fight back is possible

I think England have done a fairly decent job in the Test arena in the past 2 or 3 years barring Australia. Why do people only focus on the negative?? England is definitely not the only team to be shamed by the Aussies!

That said, the England state needs to be addressed desperately. They have to somehow find someway to limp out of this series hopefully with at least one win....or even a draw?

Maybe the Tests should be shortened to 3 days and England forced to bat first!:lol::lol::lol:

I do agree with the batting 1st bit...come on...the pitches in Australia are allways good batting pitches so to bowl 1st is stupidity...but to do it twice in a row???

Batting first in Brisbane wasn't the greatest decision but bowling first in Tassie was the right move. It wasn't going to calm down any time soon and when England got the ball in the right spot, they were really dangerous. Marty Love was the only one to look comfortable initially.

The English bowlers just bowled teribly. Probably were too excited by the green wicket and bowled too short and wide. Guys like Harmison and Flintoff looked VERY underdone, White bowled pretty well and Tudor bowled alright too. But in general, the bowling was pretty average, considering the advantage in the conditions.

It just goes to show that even if the conditions are vastly in favour of the bowlers, you still have to bowl well.
