*Official* 4th Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, 4 - 8 Mar 2021

The doctored “fusarium” pitch? The fungus infected 22 yard pitch in the middle of a stunning, green, verdant award? Yeah it was ****ing terrible. The Oval 2009 was pathetic too, the way it was ****ed around with. Basically turned it into Chennai day four as a one off. Transparent as ****.

Apparently neither was never reported on or complained about though, according to our erstwhile posters in here.
There wasn't the same scrutiny in 1972, and as a youngster watching Derek Underwood making it pop off a length after lunch on the first day was great. But a pitch with fungus is as bad as it gets, whether by design or accident.

Whatever it takes!!!
Kohli and Ashwin were moaning after the first test about the pitch and the ball.

Lol they were complaining about the SG balls last season too. How is that relevant? And he literally states "that is not an excuse" for how they played.

I mean... they always say that. All of them.

It's not like it's some moral sin to complain about the pitch or anything. But everyone does it, regardless of nationality. It's as mundane a part of following cricket as they come.

I think they mean it too, I don't think they say it as some obligatory get out of pitch complaints free card.

But yeah it still is a complaint.

I don't think there's nothing to the idea that players/fans/administrators from SENA countries complain more about turning pitches than the other way around (Mark Waugh had a huge whinge about the pitch in Chennai ffs), but putting forward the idea that Indians never complain about pitches just makes you a bad advocate for an important argument.

Yeah but he did not, he was explaining why his side lost and he said the pitch played a certain way. That is not an excuse or a complaint. I mean, you just have to read the link to understand the difference.

And I did say the England players have been fine about it too, at least in public. They have not complained and even in the interview where they mentioned they may lodge an official complaint on the Ahmedabad wicket, Silverwood took pains to point out that they had to get better at playing on such wickets. I dont think any of the players from these two sides complain about the wicket.

But when it comes to ex-cricketers and media, the English whinging wins hands down over anyone else.

I dont think the original point was about Indians as a whole. I think Karan said the "Indian Team" which is true but which is also why I pointed out the England team have not complained or whinged either.

And when it comes to ex-players and media, yes, every nationality complains about pitches but I think England's are the loudest.

I mean I think the English media are the absolute pits and I hope the mocking of them is endless, especially after how hard they tried to manufacture ridiculous controversies during the Aus/Ind series when they weren't even involved. But the "Indians never complain about the pitch" line put forward earlier just... astoundingly naive.

The team under Kohli hasn't complained about pitches from what I recollect. Especially while touring.

Again, I dont think it was said (or at least meant) as Indians as a whole. I dunno the exact post but I recall it being about this Indian team specifically and when on away tours which is totally fair and accurate AFAIK.

I just reread the post in question and can't see how it can be read to mean this Indian team specifically tbh.
I agree but I also think we should stop piling on the bloke tbh. He's already said he'd like to withdraw from the discussion and now we've got people both arguing for and against him over what exactly he even meant.

I participated but I reckon we just leave that post alone for now.

If it was not, then fair enough. I dont think that is true at all, Indian ex-cricketers and media complain about pitches often enough, lol. The team under Virat have been very good about not bringing up pitches in overseas tours and there is an interview of Virat actually saying he does not want to complain about pitches as that is not how he wants this team to play.

All these arguments Ashwin and Lyon are making were far more relevant for the 2nd Test wicket, not the latest one. It was poor.

But then again they’re spinners so they understandably feel aggrieved when they get a friendly wicket and everyone just treats their wickets as a given.

Like imagine if you practice spin bowling daily for 20 years but someone says it’s just not cricket when a ball spins on day 1. You’d rightly want to clock them.

Yeah they're all wingers lol. There's probably a difference in the media coverage though. Generally speaking, the Indian media will lay into the team when they collapse overseas on seaming decks..might still be a few idiots here and there but usually the cricket writers/former Indian cricketers reserve their ire for how the batting lineup sucks and not how green pitches are unfair. Fair to say that's a reflection of the generally accepted (false) narrative that rank turners are vaguely somehow worse than any other kind of pitch.

Pleased to see Ashwin and Lyon pushing back.

If this was a series played in the West Indies, all talk about pitch and **** would have end at the ground after the match have been completed.

Players would end up chilling at the beach good vibes.

The Barmy Army and the Bharat Army would be toasting each other.

The reason why talk about pitch continues is because of the Media.
The indian media needs a narrative. Highly sensationalism.
My IG explore page is inundated with cricket pages:90% of which are "Mahirat", "Rohitian", "Dick Pandya", etc.

It's too excessive that I have to tell the algorithm that I'm not interested in them. I want CricSledges and Grade Cricketer types of pages....and of course, some of the more local IG 'models'.

(My Sunday morning coffee is wearing off.)
