*Official* 4th Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, 4 - 8 Mar 2021

An actual difference between a pitch which is crazy green first up and one which looks like footage from Mars on the first morning is the former is capable of hardening and getting easier for batting in the event a side bats long enough, through mostly good luck. That deck in the third test was not capable of getting easier or becoming a LO even contest between bat and ball. They are both poor wickets.
FWIW I actually vastly prefer the latter (i.e. "it stays incredibly difficult throughout") to the former ("it flattens out completely and becomes a road by the 4th innings") which I view as manifestly unfair to the poor sods who invariably get sent in on day 1; not only do they get the most difficult batting conditions, but they have to cop the most difficult bowling conditions too.

The reasons why the wicket was terrible have been done to death. It’s as plain as the nose on your face. Read back over the thread ffs

the Old indian victim complex coming out and saying you don’t hear the same when matches last three days elsewhere is bull****. You hear it all the time when green tops get thrown up. Fmd that deck in Hobart a few years ago copped heaps, as an example.

LOL, who is being the victim here? Indians never complain about the pitches.

Also, this argument of pitches getting better to bat on is BS. If one team is batting on a green deck on Day 1, and gets out to a low score and if it improves on Day 2, it's still pretty unfair on the team batting first, the other team was just lucky to win the toss and bowl first. That's LOTTERY right there.

Also, people are so conveniently dropping the talk of the skiddy nature of the pink ball with extra lacquer that made life more difficult for the batsmen against the spinners. Even Joe Root raised the same thing but people conveniently avoid talking about it because they want to take the easy route of moaning about the pitch. A regular red ball test match on the same ground would have had a much different scorecard.

yep, the basin reserve circa 2013-17 was exactly this and it was awful despite putting on some great test matches like the mccullum 300 game.

Yeah for sure, which is why I said they’re both poor decks. Either extreme is fine on the odd occasion from an entertainment POV but that doesn’t make either of them good wickets. It’s been done to death in the match and the pitch threads already, but the idea it was somehow a good deck is terrible revisionism from the supporters of the side which won. If they’d been dicked they’d have been filthy at it too.

I said in the pitch thread it was fun to watch and bearable if you get the win but not fun to bat on at all. Was too much a lottery

Hahahaha noooooo. Everyone complains about pitches, without exception.
In recent times, when has the Indian team/ex-crickters gone out and complained about the pitch? There might be one or two individuals, but that might be it, you don't see too much of pitch talk. The players are criticised and rightly so.

Hope finally we have a fight between posters that lasts atleast 10 to 20 pages.
CW has become extremely boring recently with everyone agreeing with each other.

I hope one of the mods create a multi to ignit the fight from time to time

Whatever it takes!!!
TBF, the England team have not complained about it so much. The ex-players and English media have whinged A LOT more than Indian ex-players and media have done in recent times though. That is just obvious.

Yeah this is far more of a shitty excuse than the minefield of a pitch is tbh. It’s odd people haven’t realised this wasn’t the first time finger spinners had bowled in a pink ball test. The difference here was the pitch was a turgid hell hole. It’s ok, **** happens. As HB said in another thread, it’s a new ground and you move on.
But that doesn’t take away from it being a **** pitch. It’s ok mate, it’s not a sleight at your national psyche to say it was a bad pitch ffs.

the teams and players don't complain because they know they'll be labelled sore losers, they have enough media handling to understand that by now. but everytime this pitch was brought up there is the "but what about sena pitches that favour seam bowlers" from fans. is that not a complaint or am i misunderstanding english

The only reason this thread has been reduced to talking about the Third Test instead of looking forward to the Fourth is that constant links have been posted defended it. It was a poor strip for a game of cricket. It just was, irrespective of what has happened elsewhere in the past.

Incidentally, the worst pitch ever for a Test Match was Headingley 1972.

The doctored “fusarium” pitch? The fungus infected 22 yard pitch in the middle of a stunning, green, verdant award? Yeah it was ****ing terrible. The Oval 2009 was pathetic too, the way it was ****ed around with. Basically turned it into Chennai day four as a one off. Transparent as ****.

Apparently neither was never reported on or complained about though, according to our erstwhile posters in here.

I am not saying anything based on the nationality, nor am I going to argue more on this. It's just my personal opinion that the success of SC teams is not taken really well by some people. There are similar people on our side as well, like Gavaskar, who'll not give enough credit to the opposition players. I am against both!

"What about sena pitches that favour seam bowlers" is a counter, it's just a way of saying that things are same everywhere. When India does badly in an away series, there is no discussion of the pitch. Players are thoroughly criticised.

What a great test that was. Went deep into the fifth day.

Top example to use for a bad pitch argument, that one. The mental equivalent of like being mauled by a dead sheep

I think you tuned in just after tea day five for that test from memory.
One of the things from playing our C team - taking the test to 5th day.

BTW, why Mr Boon rated the pitch bad.

I don’t know. You should explain to him you didn’t switch on to watch til after tea on day five so you aren’t sure what happened in the lead up to then, and ask him.
