It really seems to depend on the ball tbh. Newish ball seems tough to face on this deck but get to over 50-60 and barely anything seems to happen. Lots of random vipers seems to shoot up out of nowhere though.
Yeah it's definitely a new ball pitch, that's why part of why so many of the runs have been scored by the lower order.

Marnus said the seam movement hasn’t changed much from the start of the game, but it’s bouncing less which brings the stumps into play a lot more

Yeah, that plus the inconsistency in bounce at times makes it a lot harder to leave on length

Watched the highlights. One of the best last wicket, all tailend, partnerships for Australia in tests.

55 for two genuine tail enders, under severe pressure in the 2nd inn, is unheard of.

I remember previous last wicket stands e.g. Brett lee and kasper, or Pat cummins and another no.11, but guys like Brett Lee and Cummins are actually decent with the bat and average in the 20s in tests. Lyon and Boland are two genuine no.11s in any other team, averaging single digit for boland and 12 for lyon.

Why would you give India a 20%+ chance of winning (they're 6.4 now) when you have a chance to decrease that?
If they can somehow chip 15-20 more runs in 20-30 minutes that makes it just so much tougher.
They should bat on and let Boland and Lyon ton up which will break Bumrah and take him out of the equation from Sydney

hope lyon and boland keep going tomorrow. will be interesting. of course it will be anticlimactic if they lose their wicket in the first few overs.

Nice stat for Marnus in the Cricinfo article: only one of three players who have faced more the 300 balls from Bumrah and has the highest average of the three (at 42). Had his luck but also seems to line him up better and play his lines a bit better than most.

Small samples. If you add even one dropped catch in, I guess 42 comes down to close to 30.

I think India's next test series is v England?

I'd assume at least one of Virat/Rohit will be gone

So thinking

Jaiswal-Rahul- Gill (ugh)- Kohli (think he may stay for England series) Sundar - Pant -Reddy
Jadeja- Bumrah- Shami- Deep?

May as well back Washington as a top order IMO.
