**Official** 4th Test at Melbourne, 26-30 Dec 2024

Last 2 tests have been a competition of lower order batting between both Teams .
Demonstration of just how important the new ball has been (and also how irrelevant spinners have been, meaning the fast bowlers have kind of been bowled into the ground on both sides)

is it fair to say we wont see Reddy bowl much in the future? better to concentrate him as a top 6 player, to replace the likes of Rohit, and Kohli when they retire. Washi, i assume, would continue to use his off spin, with Axar in the future times once Jadeja retires.

Its like Steve waugh and Saurav Ganguly. Both were military medium pacers like Reddy (120kph), classed as all rounders when military medium was thing in the 90s(guys like Gavin Larsen, Chris harris come to mind) and batters early in their career, but later in their career you didnt see them bowl much and they are concentrating on their batting, Waugh averaging over 50 and Ganguly around low 40s.

Military medium isnt really an all rounder IMHO in this day and age, need to bowl proper pace and bat to be classed as one, otherwise u are really a batter that bowls part time.

Similar to last year ODI WC ( particularly D/N games )

Still bemused by Australia not declaring and having a crack at the Indian openers to finish out Day 4, hopefully doesn't bite them in the arse on day five. Assume the declaration is going to come overnight.

Why bemused. You did watch the 1INN where the indian bottom 5 got circa 300 runs?

I always have a problem with the "no team has chased X in the fourth" stuff. If Aus makes 400 in the first innings, bowls out the opposition for 250, then sets a 400 target, and bowls them out for 200, is that the spirit of the MCG ensuring 400 does not get chased, or just a outclassed team being outclassed? How many times has a team been set a realistic fourth innings target based on how we understand their skill levels and what were the results there?

India made 350 odd in the first innings. They chased down 300 odd on their last tour here. Australia was not declaring when the lead got to 300

Yeah but I genuinely feel they are letting slip a chance to win here by not bowling now. I am not saying declare but surely could have tried playing some shots 30 mins ago.
I guess they’re backing themselves to bowl them out inside a day. Cummins and Boland both have great records in Melbourne. Gonna be a great last day whatever happens. No other sport twists and turns like test cricket. It’s the best

India making 350 here first dig was an outlier based on their recent scores though. This will likely be over by tea if they bat to their recent form.

Rather have some extra runs in the bank to allow attacking all day without the headnoise of ****ing up again

What makes you think that we can chase 250+ in MCG in 4th innings, when no team has done it for last 60 years ?
Because this pitch is flat as, Stark looked less than comfortable in the first innings, and there's nothing there for the spinners.

Don't get me wrong chasing 250 would be very difficult, and India would probably be slight underdogs. But it's incomparable to chasing 150 at wankhede on a rank turner.

I hope they do chase 250....since the lead is already 333 😀

Very flat pitch. even on 5th day itll play better than a day 1 brisbane, adelaide or perth.
