I find everyone's lack of faith disturbing. Obviously he's a young player whose role is settling in, but one would have imagined he would get more opportunity this Test than his severe underutilization, especially after his heroic debut performance of the 1st Test.

he plays a few unorthodox shots but his batting in general is not sloggy. think he might have a batting ceiling higher than hardik but his bowling will never be up there or more than mitch marsh level at his best

You are assuming this, because his pace isn't that high. Neither was Vernon Philander's but look at the career he had!

I don't see how this could go on to the 4th in whichever way. Even if India get a decent lead, they would get it in very quick time as the guy who is most capable doing that is Pant and he scores runs pretty quickly

Looking through this thread, I'm seeing skepticism ascribed towards the savior of Indian cricket (nay Test cricket as a sport!), NK Reddy.

As is, Not Outs severely deflating his batting average, and underbowling artificially suppressing his bowling WPM.

He will never be more than a part time bowler unless somehow he magicallly picks up 10kph somewhere.

If the lead is less than 150 (and I don’t see how it will be more), India simply should not bowl Bumrah, except for maybe one spell and that’s it. Let Ashwin, Rana and Reddy bowl. I don’t see Rana playing again this series.

I wonder which pace bowler has the dishonour of being reverse lapped the most times in test cricket. By my reckoning it's either Boland or Henry.

It will never happen in this day and age due to money reasons, but to unlock his potential as a swing bowling allrounder I would love if he played County cricket or even in New Zealand or somewhere favorable for seam bowling. He needs to be able to really abuse those conditions, and for me he would then become an irreplaceable part of India XI in SENA at very least.

He was as quick as Marnus on a few occasions and more accurate too. Not a fifth bowler for sure but very useful as a lower middle order bat with some bowling skills. Should defo be part of the ltd overs sides and on a case-by-case basis in Tests.

Hardik is a far more skillful bowler. A tragedy that he was too injury prone to be a test regular for India.
But Reddy is a very young kid, interesting to see how he develops his bowling.

Fully expect Australia to come out all guns blazing and wipe the floor with us here. Our batting is still extremely suspect and we have not put together one good first innings since GG took over in normal circumstances as far as I can recall. And our bowling cant bail us out every time as its essentially just Bumrah. Will back Aus to either bowl us out nothing if we bat first or to rack up 350+ and then bowl us out for nothing if we bowl first. And then boss the game from there and beat us easily.

Also frankly, I don’t trust Rohit or even Kohli to consistently score more than a Jurel or even Sarfaraz Khan. Though I understand there isn’t anyway Sarfaraz will get a game given he didn’t score in the tour game.

I understand there is no universe where Rohit gets dropped mid series and Kohli’s hundred brought him two years so now he can retire with his average below 45, so it’s all a pipe dream.
