Gill won't be ready, and Shami will not be flown in either.

So:
  1. Rahul
  2. Jaiswal
  3. Rohit
  4. Kohli
  5. Jurel
  6. Pant
  7. Jadeja
  8. Reddy
  9. Deep
  10. Bumrah
  11. Siraj

I still don't love the bowling attack outside of Bumrah, but India does need to bolster its batting since that is its weaker suit. I would consider Akash Deep instead of Rana or Reddy. I would slot him in ahead of Rana if you wanted more batting and instead of Reddy if you wanted more bowling.

I do hope Shami can come back - though I don't know if they will actually fly him in.

One thing is I hope Sarfaraz bats in the PM XI game and makes runs because I think it's a shame that he isn't getting a chance.
They will go with your lineup IMO.

Rohit
Jaiswal
Rahul
Kohli
Pant
Jurel
Jadeja
Reddy / (Ashwin)
Akash Deep
Bumrah
Siraj

So minimum 3 changes. Rohit for DDP. Jadeja for Sundar. Akashdeep for Harshit. Think they will persist with Reddy though I'd prefer Ashwin or even Sundar over him as the pink ball helps spinners too plus Reddy is a crap bowler and India need a proper bowler in his place. But India will lose badly anyway so it doesn't matter, as ******* deadweight Rohit is back as captain :thumbdown And Australia will not lose 2 games on the trot to this India side at home especially not with a pink ball. Australia is 75-25 favs for this match IMHO.

This Indian side is actually better than the one that played at Gabba.

The NZ series has no bearing on this. That series amplified India's weaknesses.

That series does have a bearing. It has made India 'more' desperate and driven for success. Just like Australia will be 2nd Test onwards.

That is just mumbo jumbo.

India's series vs NZ has no bearing on this series as it was completely different conditions which amplify India's weaknesses (aging spinners in Ashwin/Jadeja, weakness against spin by the Indian batting especially Kohli/KL, ineffectiveness of Siraj on non-SENA tracks with Shami out).

In these conditions, 30 year old Bumrah who is at a peak becomes the main bowler not 38 year old Ashwin and 36 year old Jadeja, who need not even play. Similarly 30 year old Siraj becomes a good support bowler in conditions which suit him. Also KL/Kohli are not complete walking wickets.

Going forward for home tests India should prepare flatter wickets to widen up the gap between Bumrah, Shami/Akash, Kuldeep and other bowlers. The Eng series was a good template.

The Bangalore match loss made them panic and they went back to turners again (like vs England 2021) but Rohit, Ashwin, Jadeja all were older now.

Turners mean that Bumrah can't even come in his best phase at home (old ball reverse swing) as innings finish way earlier. Also gap between Kuldeep and other spinners (mostly finger) decreases.

International Debutant
So the two spare bats both bat 6 in the Shield. At least that gives Aus a chance to massively refresh the batting order

1. Khawaja
2. McSweeney
3. Smith
4. Inglis
5. Head
6. Webster
7. Carey
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Unfortunately Inglis would have to bat 4 to split up the 2 debutants and to keep Head in his favourite position

More likely Aus XI is unchanged with Labuschagne at 3 and Webster in at 6 only if Marsh is not fit

@mackembhoy saw a tweet from indian fan reacting to Lehman comment that root isn't great till he scores century in Australia saying ponting averaged 26 with 0 hundreds in india till his 14th test( ironically root has played 14 tests in aus) if punter can be atg why cant root be. Imo Joe is atg and doesn't need to prove his greatnees to every tom dick and harry. hope he gets big double hundred in Australia next year and shuts up all haters
