I can't believe PSV got through, they got absolutely battered in the first leg against Lyon even tho they got a draw. They must be pretty long odds for a semi-final tho against AC Milan.

i would laugh if it turns out to be a liverpool vs psv final

law of averages says that liverpool are due a win over chelsea, and last years quarter final against deportivo is evidence enough to show that milan are very capable of making a mess of seemingly easy proceedings, far more unlikely things have happened than a liverpool and psv final.

although i am an arsenal fan, i would really like liverpool to go all the way this year.

Im a Utd supporter but i too would like to see Liverpool go all the way this year, at least instead of chelsea that is. Just so long as Gerrard doesn't end up moving to chelsea next season!! Still though don't think anyone will touch AC.

never say never, and yes gerrard to chelsea would be dire for all those not playing their home games at stamford bridge

we have to give ourselves a chance against Milan, although is gonna be very very tough, hiddink said even before the 2nd round draw if they can avoid italian sides they can keep progressing, but now we have to face the best of the lot, the away leg could be difficult, i just hope the tie isnt gone after 1 game...

Another away victory for the Rams - and it looks like Nothingham Florists are doomed for the drop, and my latest brew is fantastic. Life just doesn't get any better than this (thinks about Derbyshire CCC, walks away whistling)

Yes! 3-0! We're on our way to Cardiff, er, hang on.....well, we're going back again! :D

I bet SP's got his bunting up already!

Quite impressive - at least the clinical finishing was. Always pleased to see any team associated with Robbie Savage lose

And we keep our slender play-off chances alive... had we not conceded in the 94th on Tuesday, we'd have been in the playoffs. Now we need Morecambe, Woking and Stevenage to drop points in their last two games, as well as winning both of ours.

Championship play-off teams are beginning to look quite like the teams occupying positions 4-6 plus either Wigan or Ipswich.

Convention has it that it's better to finish 3rd or 4th so you play your home leg last in the semi-final, but with Derby's away form so good, I think I'd rather we got our home game out of the way first.

That's assuming we don't throw it away in the last 4 games.

Right, just thought I'd share my extensive play-off probability calculations I've just created for the benefit of ExeWeb's regulars:

City beating Gravesend = around 85% chance
City beating Carlisle = around 40% chance
Therefore chance of winnng both = around 34%

Then, we must take into account the other teams, and the possible ways that can work out for each (s=success, ie win, and f=fail, ie draw or defeat)...
FF, FS, SF or SS

City then need all three sides to record "FF", "FS", or "SF". The easiest way to work this out is to work out the chance of "SS", and then subtract that from 100%.

Morecambe beating FGR = ~88%
Morecambe winning at Tamworth = ~65%
Morecambe winning both = ~57.2%
Therefore, Morecambe failing = ~ 42.8%

Woking beating Hereford = ~30%
Woking winning at Halifax = ~40%
Woking winning both = ~12%
Therefore, Woking failing = ~88%

Stevenage winning at Crawley = ~55%
Stevenage winning at Leigh = ~95%
Stevenage winning both = ~52.25%
Therefore, Stevenage failing = 47.75%

Therefore, total chance of the messups happening in a way that favour City is that all three fail - 42.8% × 88% × 47.75% = 17.98%

So, the messup needs to happen, and City need to take advantage of it with a double win = 17.98% × 34% = 6.11%

A little higher than my original estimate, and it's certainly a shade higher still when you factor in the probabilities of City not winning both, but getting even more foul-ups in their favour, or Aldershot imploding and failing to take any points from their last two...

So, to summarise, the odds of City making the playoffs are approximately 6.11%, or 15.354 to 1 - so if you get any odds at a bookmakers of 16s or higher, take it!

play offs are going to be very close. Ipswhich and wigan are better sides than the rest of the teams in the playoffs but the team that finsihes 3rd very rarely go up.
preston have been in brilliant form and derby as you say have a great away record. Reading have found there form again and i hope that they do it
