NZ Domestic Transfers - 2004/2005

So Tim, you said that there might be some suprises in the contracts, care to elaborate on them man?

I do sometimes get inside information from the Academy.
There is a possible chance i've heard that Nicol could be going to Otago but I think it's highly unlikely.

I have heard that rumour getting louder and louder down here, It would be a very good player to sign i hope it happens. It could do wonders for his career aswell because of batting on superior tracks.

Anzac, the Canterbury squad is strong, but with the large number of Black Caps in that team, it looks pretty even.

The Black Caps are: Papps, Astle, McMillan, Cairns, Harris, McCullum+, Wiseman, Bond, Martin.

Take them out, and you've got an equally same strength a team as say Auckland or CD.
yep with the likes of McIntosh, Fulton, Stewart, Sherlock, they look very strong, esp with the likes of Wiseman, Harris, Cairns no longer automatic selections, and Macca's form being so poor this tour...........

I just worry about what will happen when everyone is available - like last year didn't some of the players like Broom & Co miss out???? was Hopkins part of their set up last season????

When Nicol has already managed to average over 50 in Auckland? 8-)
When has he averaged over 50?
That certainley isnt his career average.
BTW when will these contracts be released must be soon.

Mingster

State Regular
He averaged 50 prior to last season.

SM, if you had paid attention to my post, of course I didn't say that was his career average, that's why I said "managed".....

Glenn Mcgrath managed to average 50 once in first class aswell(over one innings) , means squat though.

He averaged over 50 for one whole season and scored a few centuries as well. But of course, it means "squat".

The Wellington lineup will be very weak this year without the Black Caps.
Not really, Wellington doesn't have that many BCs. Fleming hardly ever plays for them and Franklin's not established in the NZ team yet.

I've noticed over the (many) years that teams with few internationals tend to have a lot of success. This is because whether NZ is on tour or not, they have the same settled team. Provinces with a lot of internationals don't usually have a strong pool of backups and suffer as a result. Unless it's Canterbury, whose chequebook sees them through!

This situation is the main reason that Otago manage to stay respectable. If the internationals were available all the time, it would get embarrassing for the Southerners.

Wellington won the Championship last year with a very similar side - there's no reason they can't repeat the dose this time - especially with Ryder in for Jones. What a trade!

Someone keep an eye on that Thompson chap from down south. Last season he was State Championship's:
1) 7th highest wicket taker (25 wickets)
2) 2nd best average (excluding bowlers who only bowled 15 overs or less) (16.76)
3) Best bowling strike rate (excluding bowlers who only bowled 10 overs or less) (32.2)
4) The only bowler to take 7 wickets in an innings - 7/55.
5) One of only two bowlers to take a 10 wicket haul, along with his two five fors.

He also took 123 runs at an average of 20.5, with one 50 (55*). I haven't really heard reports about him before so it'd be nice to know who this guy really is. His bowling average caught my eye. I'd also like to know how fast he bowls, he's listed as a fast-medium.

Oddly enough the bowler who had an average better than him was none other than Harris. Go figure!

I assume he'll still be playing for CD.

Not for much longer...apparently Davis is transferring to my club in Auckland.

As for Ewen Thompson..he's ok, but has been plagued by injury. The guy I think is good is Brent Hefford but he also had a bad injury last season.

Whoops my mistake..Davis did get a contract with N.D. So it seems Auckland Uni failed in their attempt to sign him.

Those offered contracts are: Rob Hart (BOP), Graeme Aldridge (BOP), Te Ahu Davis (Hamilton), Matthew Hart (BOP), Nick Horsley (Waikato Valley), Llorne Howell (BOP), James Marshall (Northland), Bruce Martin (Hamilton), Mark Orchard (Hamilton), Grant Robinson (Hamilton), Joseph Yovich (Northland).

The five players with NZ Cricket contracts are: Scott Styris, Daryl Tuffey, Hamish Marshall, Daniel Vettori and Ian Butler.

Auckland contracted players:

Andre Adams, Aaron Barnes, Tama Canning, Paul Hitchcock, Matt Horne, Richard Jones, Rob Nicol, Gareth Shaw, Brooke Walker, Kerry Walmsley, Reece Young.

NZ Players: Richardson, Mills, Vincent.

Not many shocks there...Rob Nicol stays in Auckland.

------------------------

Wellington: Matthew Bell, James Franklin, Mark Gillespie, Stu Mills, Chris Nevin, Iain O’Brien, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Ashley Turner, Matthew Walker, Luke Woodcock.

------------------------

Canterbury: Neil Broom, Steve Cunis, Brendon Donkers, Andrew Ellis, Peter Fulton, Tim McIntosh, Hayden Shaw, Richard Sherlock, Gary Stead, Shanan Stewart, James Ward.

------------------------

Otago: Craig Cumming, Chris Gaffaney, Gareth Hopkins, Robert Lawson, Nathan McCullum, Marcel McKenzie, Warren McSkimming, Aaron Redmond, Bradley Scott, Greg Todd, Muhammad Wasim, Jeff Wilson.

------------------------

Central Districts: Jarrod Englefield, Bevan Griggs, Lance Hamilton, Brent Hefford, Jamie How, Michael Mason, Andrew Schwass, Craig Spearman (Overseas Player), Glen Sulzberger, Ross Taylor, Ewen Thompson, Regan West.

The only player I have no idea about is James Ward from Canterbury..anybody else know much about him?

I found out a bit more about James Ward.

He appears to be a 30 year old lower order batsman, (yet another) left arm orthodox bowler.

What is Hefford like?

I have heard stuff on him being a future Black Cap?

And where did you hear that Craig?

Brent Hefford has a good first-class and one-day record. Not express pace but just bowls great line and lengths. Didn't he play for Canterbury once?

So is Davis going to be playing for Auckland this season or what?

James Ward, I don't think Canterbury will need another spinner, because Wiseman won't play for the Black Caps again in the near future anyway.

I think from that we lack a pace bowler, I would have liked to of seen James Mcmillan given another chance to of seen if he has gotten over his injuries.
I don't think we would go that well playing two spinners in every match, but by this it looks like it is possible, While both are allrounders i think we needed to of sacraficed one of them for another quickie.

My team from that would be

1. Wasim
2. Cumming
3. Gaffney
4. Lawon
5. Wilson
6. Todd/Mckenzie
7. Redmond
8. Hopkins
9. McCullum
10. Mcskimming
11. Scott
