Injury on Eng tour came at the wrong time, too old to recover his NZ spot. Was unlucky to have been overlooked in his early 20s.

A bit of a random post, months out of date.
But, I was extremely impressed, and surprised by Neesham’s batting v the spinners in the test series v the West Indies.
I recall a post & video from Kippax prio to Neesham’s test debut. One of the things that stand out in my memory was the comment that his batting v (domestic) spinners was failry average and relied a lot/often on a pressure release shot over midwicket. Assuming the gist of it was gleaned from the negative KPI’s in the vault.
Anyway, Neesham’s footwork v the spinners in the Caribbean was excellent, especially some of those down the wicket off drives.
What do you guys reckon of his stint in the IPL, even/especially if much of it was confined to the nets - would have done for his play v spinners? Improved it ‘that’ much? Or had we/I got a false impression of his prefvious level v spin?

Domestic schedule is almost out (missing the HRV details) on blackcaps.co.nz.
I see that the first ODI v the Saffas in October is actually before the first Plunket Shield match of the season. So NZ will go in very cold.
It will be interesting to see what sort of selection approach they have. Some of the players like McCullum, Taylor, N McCullum, Ronchi, Mills will be very undercooked.
In these circumstances I suggest they use as many of the fringe players from the NZA tour as practicable, plus those coming off an off-season of professional cricket like Williamson, McClenaghan, Guptill etc. After all that is the point of this hastily arranged series.
18 ODIs to go to the world cup. Let’s find out a bit about Henry, Munro, Latham, Bennett, even Watling.

Hesson has asked for a batsman in the top order who can bowl since KW probably won't be able to in the world cup.

I honestly think they'd be better off asking Taylor or Guptill to work on their offies.

I thought it had already been confirmed that Ryder was playing for the Rebels. Either way, glad to hear that Hesson's not considering allowing him back in the side. I don't care if we're a weaker ODI team without him. Ryder's behaviour before the Eden Park test, and his subsequent refusal to accept that he'd done anything wrong, was the final straw for me. I don't ever want to see him in a New Zealand shirt again.

Renegades confirmed this months ago.
And I agree on the latter part. Hesson, as much as anyone, is aware of the impact on an environment on a cricket side and I'd say he'd have to be down to raiding the Stewart Island 4ths before he dials Jesse's number again.
