I guess people like Taylor, Edwards, Lawsons, Dwayne Smith were all lucky to be picked due to their lack of FC games. Not so much their results.
Lawson had a few FC games behind him though with decent results. Taylor had a full season of FC cricket behind him with outstanding results. Dwayne Smith and Fidel Edwards are the only two there who I would call lucky per se.

Langeveldt

Soutie
Doug Marillier (lucky to be alive, let alone playing test cricket after being told he would never walk again after a car accident)

Some of these guys were lucky due to politics, some not

Vusi Sibanda
Blessing Mahwire
Justin Ontong
Robin Peterson
Richard Dawson
Fidel Edwards
Marcus Trescothick
Steve Harmison
Shahid Afridi
Dwayne Smith

He'd give anything to be able to bol again I bet.
What is "bol?" A new sport?

How much does it cost to "bol"? Where can I go? Are there any specialist "bol" centres? Tudoring? Any information would be appreciated!

Not to forget Michael Vaughan! Averaging 27 for Yorks then gets into the squad for South Africa! Not to mention England sticking with him when he would take 140 balls to score 20 and then throw his wicket away.

Giles is lucky because he is allways picked, even when conditions don't suit him and England would be better off with a seamer, or he's totally out of form. Take Bangladesh for example, he didn't deserve selection after that, especially after his summer.

If we aretalking about players who are lucky, I would say Virender Sehwag....must be the luckiest cricketer alive.
Sehwag's been quite lucky in Tests recently, but there are a few who've been far luckier for longer (eg Trescothick, Hayden, Gilchrist).

Tresco, hayden and gilchrist...all left handers of great power...could there be a connection. My thought on this is that if a players hits the ball hard enough, the chances they give become that much harder to take.

Left handers are notorious for flashing wide outside off stump...and if you are going to flash ..flash hard. (Although Tresco does seem to be undone by his footwork). David Gower (more of a timer than a smasher) always seemed to get done by the ball outside off stump and him flashing....maybe if he had gone after those balls harder he may have survived more.

No, not at all, you'll see plenty worse all-rounders.
Ian Harvey, for instance.
Ronnie Irani is the worst player I have ever seen play for a team aside from the minnows. (Including Zimbabwe) He serves no purpose.

I am going to go your way this time around because his stats are TERRIBLE.

Ronnie Irani

ODI

Bowling Average

41.20

Batting Average

14.40

Tests aren't much better...

After that spell against India follwed by good batting and economical bowling and inspired fielding throughout the rest of the series, I can safely say there have been many worse. He lost it in Australia, but then so did Hoggard and no one is saying he's the worst player they've seen. Just because Irani looks like an amature makes people underestimate him, and also downgrade him far too harshly. Not the best, not the worst, not amazing but ok.

Sydney Barnes must have been one of the most lucky players ever to be selected for test cricket. He had played about 15 first class matches in 8 seasons before he was selected to go to Australia in 1901-02 but turned out to be possibly England's best ever bowler.

Watson in the First-Class game isn't too bad.
Certainly I reckon better than Khaled Mahmud, Harvey or Irani.
Though in the one-day game not as good as any.
I think you will find he will improve alot in OD game's.

This season his OD batting avrage is 38 with a strike rate off 77 and about 380 runs so he is improving his batting in OD game's.

His new bowling action also look's alot more suited to one day cricket it's not quite as skidy and he can swing the ball quite a bit now so batsman will find him harder to hit. It's also quite simple so accuracy should not be to much of a problem.

No to mention the Pura cup were he has made 983 runs with 4 tons and three fiftys.

Still picking somebody after one season and playing a handful of games since it would never occur to the WICB to make the Cairb Beer Cup home and away (unles money really is an issue).

Picking Taylor and Lawson after a few games is what I would call lucky. And how is Dwayne Smith and Edwards lucky per se?
