Luckiest player to make it to test cricket?

Well - luck is a word you keep trying to put into my mouth, but the figure's somewhere near.
Getting stuff you don't deserve can be construed as luck in a way, but it's not the best word for most of the stuff I talk about.
Anyway, are you seriously trying to say Anderson bowled well in the VB Series? He got wickets at a late stage very often and bowled genuinely well in about 2 games (the 10-12-1 game, and even then it wasn't that good, and one of the Sri Lanka matches) and was hammered a lot. He often had his figures improved after being hammered by wickets at the end.
No-one will ever convince me Anderson bowled well in that series, regardless of what happened in two World Cup games (Holland and Pakistan).

Haven't bothered to check, but from memory Smith has never taken a List-A OD wicket and hasn't even bowled more than 10 overs in total in his career to date.

Ashish Nehra, MSK Prasad, Vijay Bharadwaj, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Brendon Julian, Shahid Afridi, Shadab Kabir, Hasan Raza, Shahid Nazir

All of these guys had a lot of talent, and even after poor performances were persisted with.

Im glad most of these guys got the chop (except Nehra).
what are you on about shahid nazir was a top bowler better than people niell mallender. But he deserved test cricket as he was good enough. Luck especially in regards to indian pace bowlers has alowed people like prasad and paras mambre to play, there are very few options.

International Coach
Lou Vincent. He got selected for the NZ ODI team despite averaging in the 20s at both 1D and 4D domestic level. He then went on to average in the 20s at ODI level, with a strike rate below 60 and a highest score of 60, and yet for some reason was called up for tests. Of course he got runs against Australia, but his test average has quickly retreated back down towards the 20s as well.

Once again it would be far better to say: name some players very lucky to get to Test-cricket.
Not possible to pick a "luckiest" from this.

too many errors by selectors so many lucky players no conclusion can be drawn

Come on. He averages 29 in Test cricket. That's not bad yet not really really crap. Thats the same as Bruce Edgar.

He's still got a future with the Black Caps.

That is bad. With players like McIntosh, Ryder et al right there, I fail to see why they would persist with Vincent.
