PlayerComparisons is Billy Root and his account exists to express his jealous sibling rage. Only explanation I can think of

tbf Burgey is like 80 I won't take his takes too seriously.

plus, no matter how much one hides something, a lil bit of the sibling love sips out.

Eh, far less so then Indians and Pakistanis I'd argue, you won't see English fans defend Kohli if he was english, and Pakistani fans just straight up undermine the achievements of the opposition whenever one of their pacers is compared to someone else.
Yes you would

I know @PlayerComparisons doesn't rate Root very highly, but would you bet your life on the fact that Joe Root's gonna succeed in AUS in the next Ashes? Pretty sure not.
I wouldn't even bet my life on me being alive a month later, me not betting on something means nothing fr. I do think he'll probably have a good series tho.

It's the pitches more than anything else that determines whether someone is going to avg high or not. The bazzballers love flat pitches, Australia will give them the exact opposite just like in the BGT. So I don't think it will be easy for him or any other batter in either lineup. Only two batsmen averaged more than 40 in the BGT.

Tbh, I don't think the pitches in the recent BGT had too much in them, other than the first day of Perth and the final Sydney pitch, both Brisbane and Melbourne were pretty good for batting, Adeliade too was battable in but Starc with pink ball is it's own monster, Indian top order was very brittle this series and Kohli/Rohit were passenger wickets and it was the lower order constantly bailing them out, Aussie batters took time to get back in form against Bumrah's ATG rampage. I do think 2025 Ashes will probably be fairly low scoring because of the state of modern batting but this series probably isn't reflective of it.

I hate the Aussie scum but one thing I'll give them is they make pretty fair pitches, bar the bounce that's Australia unique.

I've seen viewing voting things from England in which the likes of Anderson are named in all time XIs.
He's the top wicket taker of all time among seamers so obviously he will attract stuff like that. Some fans from all teams in sport are very parochial; especially the ones with large sample sizes hence India have their fair share of biased supporters too. I doubt a single England fan on here would agree with ranking Anderson as high as that.

Yeah wicket tally does have effect on people and their mindset, iirc even Steyn glazes Anderson more than an average English fan does.

Given Aus and Eng players prepare whole life to perform in Ashes and how much legacy of Eng/Aus players are shaped by Ashes, Root's record home and away combined in Ashes is not really impressive. People focus on away in Aus rightly but let's not go there. It's home and away for all players in Ashes and the most important series for Aus/Eng players.

I think Root is a wonderful batsman, but legacy of Eng/Aus players do get shaped by how well they do in Ashes. In case of Root, it's not just about Ashes in Aus, he has not really set the world on fire with his performance in Eng as well.

30-40 tests with avg of 40 and 4 tons. Not really great. He is facing a great bowling unit but then you got to step up against them to leave your mark. A batsman can have not so impressive avg but lots of big scores or just have consistent high average without big scores. Root does not have that.

He would have played around 40 tests in Ashes by then and if it's just 4 tons with avg around 40 then it's not good.

I hope Root gets a big series in next Ashes with couple of tons. One ton will satisfy checklist fans due to having ton in Aus, but does very little for his legacy. Avg of 40 with 5 tons in 40 test won't look good either in Ashes history. He needs to a big Ashes series in Aus with couple of tons.
