For eg, one sub par series in South Africa and his avg there would end up mid 30s. He has only played 4 tests in NZ, 6 in SA, 5 in SL, 3 in Pak, 2 in WI. Look at that sample size. It's nothing. Actually none of these country averages can be taken seriously atm. He needs to have played at least 8-10 tests in 'some' of these nations.
Good point about his overseas record which we tend to over glorify.

Wait for 2/3 years. We may witness the victory of Dravid.
Despite two hundreds, Smith's avg fell more than 1 whole point in the BGT as he avg'd just 34 in the series. So if even with hundreds, it's going down like this, a couple of bad series and it could come down very quickly. Thats how fickle averages are. Look at Kohli, dude is going to end up 'below 45', which would be more shocking than Smith finishing on like 51.5

Smith ending up there takes away a lot from him, not gonna lie.

He had utterly insane and absurd hand eye coordination, nothing to do with bounce or technique, he was just a freak in term of talent, a bit like Viv.

Definitely reflexes helped cover up this issue in his peak.
Yeah it's almost as if he had a technique which worked well for him in that it made him near impossible to dismiss in all conditions, against virtually all but the most extreme types of bowling, everywhere he played. Your runs don't count extra because you "didn't rely on hand eye coordination as much".

The idea that it's just bounce that has saved Smith this whole time and he would have struggled if he had just happened to ever face good fast bowling on lower bouncing pitches is a complete fantasy. Total fabrication.
Previously it wasn't bounce, it was his insane reflexes/hand eye. He would never miss anything on his pads. Now it is the bounce that is saving him.
