So Viv averages 36 against his best opponent at home?
Tbf I was half joking...... Though yeah he does that. His last 90s series was worse than this tour of Virat, but he was well past it really. But yeah, his 78 series was also poor and Australian bowlers had abysmal record in 84 (was mostly a 178 still, but was a very good 178).

Yeah, and I'm saying it would be hard for Smith to do that.

He probably would end up with an average of 50/51, similar to Viv.
I would say though, 80s Australia and England were alright attacks, but definitely nothing much special, on the weaker side of things. 80s gets hard carried by WI, and to an extent NZ (a.k.a Hadlee) and Pakistan (a.k.a Imran).

He played 15 innings vs AUS at home, and 39 innings in AUS. He did quite good in AUS vs AUS.
15 innings in 12 Tests is strikingly low. But yeah, Viv is an ATG in Australia (mostly for 79, 75 was pretty good too) but played his fair share of mid attacks in the 80s as well and given his home record, I will take Lloyd overall vs them.

Are you saying Steven Smith would average better than Viv despite facing great bowlers like Roberts, Holding, Marshall, Garner, Walsh & Ambrose?
No.

And wait, Smith could end up with 51 average in real life if he can continue his form. If he averages 35 in his next 40 innings, he should end up with an average of 52.

depends entirely on how flat wickets he gets, he won't be averaging 55 if he didn't have the most flat major county in history of this sport as his home ground in his prime (Australia from 2002 to 2018-19)

is it the 91 series?
Total. In the 78, 84 and 91 series combined. If anything, given the bowling record of the Australians in 84 and that he still only reached double digits twice, it is on the higher side if anything. Don't think it really proves anything though, except it is sometimes futile to fawn over away record only.

Yeah don't really think it means much, funny tho, what's his average against aus at home excluding the 1991 disaster
