Yeah, Waqar, Pollock and Walsh all did similar in Australia.

Yeah, I don’t think anyone here actually rates him in the top tier with Marshall and McGrath. I just have him around the same level as Pollock which is still pretty great.

Nothing makes me feel old or young except the date of birth on my Birth Certificate, but Sir James is now about the age I was when he made his debut therefore leading to the conclusion that I’ve wasted my life and none of it has been worthwhile.

He wouldn’t want to tour here again and go out in ignominy, you’d reckon.
He deserves to go out in front of his home crowds.
He might go on another year after the Ashes and tbh if I was him I would too so I didn’t go out in a losing side.

If England somehow manage to win or draw the Ashes, I think that would be enough for him to call it quits then.

I don’t think he’s going to deliberately attempt to retire on a high. He’ll just keep on playing for as long as he’s good enough and fit enough to be selected.

We always win or draw the home Ashes. It’d be more interesting for him to go out after a win against sides who occasionally win series here, like Sri Lanka or New Zealand.

The tricky part is keeping track of how much he’s able to bowl. If it gets to the point where opposition bats just aren’t scoring off him knowing that they only have to face 10 overs from him in a day, which we’ve seen glimpses of in this series in Pakistan, it’ll flatter his figures while not especially benefitting the side.
