Is Ashwin an ATG spinner / player?

Kohli uses fast bowlers well, but Im not sure how we can give him much credit for them becoming better bowlers? I doubt Kohli gave Ishant tips which improved his wrist position 2015 onwards. Improvement in Indias fast bowling stocks is a result of better coaching at all levels.

Dhoni wouldve probably told Bumrah to bowl to 7-2 legside fields tho.

I am bored of this thread. I'll just say I think Kohli is a decent captain at the moment but this team is too good(with or without him). And only thing I am against is him and Shastri getting credit for imaginary things that exists only on CW(like some kind of culture that he has built, etc. etc.). Like @OverratedSanity said in the previous post, it's good coaching that improves players and not some motivational speech. And players who make it to the playing XI of India don't do it without having that level of mental toughness.

If Kohli really developed India's fast bowling culture , he would have debuted Siraj at home against WI /BAN or overseas against NZ .
It was Rahane who debuted Siraj at MCG.

Yes that was a full collapse but it was India's first match on tour of England. They barely had any time to prepare for it or acclimatise, while new zealand played a two match series vs England. Then lost toss on greentop, so batted first. Then because of rain and time eaten up, despite india restricting NZ to a small lead, India had NO possible way of pushing for victory in the 3rd innings! Only thing india could achieve was a draw.

The key difference is how much better India was in the tests against England right from the start because the team had camped in England and were fully acclimatised. Similar to how Nz were far more acclimatised for the match against India.

So it has nothing to do with the captain, besides losing toss on greentop haha
Newlands 2018, Edgbaston 2018 and Adelaide 2020 - Hyped up first test of each series and India collapse in second innings in each to lose.

Champions Trophy 2017 and World Cup Semi 2019 - In-form top three collapse collectively in chase

Christchurch 2019 and WTC 2021 - Series on the line, India fold in the second innings to get whitewashed/lose championship

T20 WC 2021 - Must win game against NZ, India's top order inexplicably freezes and fails to put to a decent score

The above are examples of pressure games that Indian batting under Kohli cracked.

Whatever it takes!!!
Mate maybe you should actually check their averages before and after Kohli. Statsguru isn't always great but it will do an okay job here.

And of course everyone knows Bumrah was found out by MI, MI didn't try him out in the SA series though and you could go all revisionist and pretend anyone would have taken that decision but the fact of the matter is that it was very controversial at that point of time.
Bumrah was never found out by MI. He was just given the first opportunity by them. He was at the MRF pace academy far before MI knew he existed.

Does Kohli get the credit for 78 all out in next Test too ?
Yes thats also because of Kohli. That was the one time i was hoping he wouldn't win the toss because india needed to bowl first but I knew he wud bat.

India were sent in to bat twice in the series, yet won both times, coming back from behind.

We literally had bowlers injured or in India. What is this even supposed to mean?
This is supposed to mean that we should give chance to promising players at home against weak sides not overseas against Australia .

If IND wins the series in SA , then Kohli will be remembered as the greatest Asian Test captain . I criticise him all the time but you can't argue with the result.

People can say this SA team is weak but they still whitewashed both PAK and SL 3-0.
I wouldn't call current SA side weak, especially not at home, no way.

Their attack is still very good and they have just enough batsmen to hurt india. And in low scoring contests, the gap narrows between teams. So games can go either way. Few individuals can take the game away. So India is not a clear favourite in away low scoring conditions totally suited to the south africans.

You can say its 55-45 in India's favor, at best.

And in 2018/19 in Aus, I don't think India starts as favorites, I would have given a 'tiny edge' to Australia being at home and having a full pace attack.

I mean if things were ideal we would've had a full strength attack in the first place. Can't just say we should let people debut vs weak sides and then ignore that this was hardly the ideal debut for Siraj either.

Yeah, how easy is it to take over captaincy mid-series in Australia after your captain leaves, your team just got rolled up for 36 and then half your team gets injured mid-way?
Apparently easier than failing to apply the killer blow with Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar in your team on a **** pitch…

His tactics in that game were a shambles.
