Can't believe I'm saying this...I mean this is ultimately a discussion based in the kind of nonsense you'd associate more with celebrity gossip rather than anything substantial.
Here is the question: do you think India under Kohli would have won in 20/21?This is still nonsensical. Rahane's 100 was great, but crediting it all to him is doing exactly what Ashwin was complaining about in that Cricket Monthly interview. There is nothing here that is reflected in reality.
I mean, you can read comments from Rahane himself how he approached the captaincy in the series, especially in reference to players like Ashwin and Pujara who had important contributions, to give you an idea of his approach. Unless you are of the mind that captains are interchangeable and irrelevant, in which case Kohli shouldnt get credit for anything.I mean this is ultimately a discussion based in the kind of nonsense you'd associate more with celebrity gossip rather than anything substantial.
The reality is that India's batting chocking is a feature of Kohli's captaincy. The list of high profile matches when his team have collapsed at key moments is too long to ignore. Champions Trophy Final 2017, Newland 2018, Edgbaston 2018, World Cup Semi 2019, Christchurch 2019, Australia 2020, WTC Final 2021. T20WC 2021, etc. This is still nonsensical. lol the heck is a captain supposed to do if his batting collapses? Call him out for tactical blunders if you have to, not when there's a collective malady plaguing Indian batting. The reality is that India's batting chocking is a feature of Kohli's captaincy. ..or indeed like when we fail to bowl out NZ at home while Kohli sits out, but promptly take the next game with him back in charge.Yeah, I mean its not like we were 2-1 over 4 tests in England or anything under Virat's captaincy.
If you remove the times we didn't collapse under Kohli in tests we collapsed every single time.lol the heck is a captain supposed to do if his batting collapses? Call him out for tactical blunders if you have to, not when there's a collective malady plaguing Indian batting.
Yes? This is not using stats or logic to say Kohli can't win overseas in SENA, this is braindead muttering and stuttering. Here is the question: do you think India under Kohli would have won in 20/21?
To me, the answer is clearly no. He lost the first test badly, as he did in NZ, Eng and SA when he lost those series. I think it required a change of captaincy, among other factors, for India to bounce back.
I am of the mind that using Ashwin's words to **** on Kohli for not being there when we won is the height of idiocy. This is how my boomer parents who barely follow cricket and only rely on their understanding of cricket in the 80s-00s talk.I mean, you can read comments from Rahane himself how he approached the captaincy in the series, especially in reference to players like Ashwin and Pujara who had important contributions, to give you an idea of his approach. How Ajinkya Rahane and his trusted lieutenants masterminded India's Border-Gavaskar triumph
A relaxed mindset, and the help of senior pros Rohit, Pujara and Ashwin, were keys to India's come-from-behind victorywww.espncricinfo.com
I can't believe I had to say that at all to be frank. Can't believe I'm saying this...
I completely agree with you
Of course the captain is partly to blame if a team keeps collapsing under pressure.lol the heck is a captain supposed to do if his batting collapses? Call him out for tactical blunders if you have to, not when there's a collective malady plaguing Indian batting.
Well, the posters are doing the opposite. Remove the times the team collapsed to show that India doesnt really collapse under Kohli. If you remove the times we didn't collapse under Kohli in tests we collapsed every single time.
The strange thing is, I am not saying Kohli is a bad captain. I am just saying that under him, India have gone missing in big moments when you would expect them to perform.Massive lol at Kohli fanboys. Now they are giving the credit of Bumrah to Kohli. As if Mumbai Indians and Rohit had nothing to do with it .
Remove Bumrah from India's pace attack and we will again struggle in overseas conditions despite Shami, Umesh and Ishant.
Kohli ran away from Captaincy in 2 deciding moments in BG Trophy in 2017 and 2021. It was Rahane who captained India to victory in those 2 series.
To me Rahane is like Mark Taylor and Kohli is like Ponting in Test captaincy. I would back our team to perform even better under Rahane's captaincy.
Yeah, how easy is it to take over captaincy mid-series in Australia after your captain leaves, your team just got rolled up for 36 and then half your team gets injured mid-way?And yet, under kohli, India have held number 1 the longest. It's easy to be the new guy for a few games. You give your players a breath of fresh air and let them attack. But it's unlikely to achieve sustainable results.
I think the problem in batting under kohli lately is Kohli himself. He's been down so no glue to hold them together.
