Bouncer dear, before you start mouthing off the Indian Media have you ever wondered where is Md. Irshad now ? Or Abdur Rauf ? And before we could forget about these two now we hear this new Kid 'Rao'. We have already seen Umar Guls and the chucker Shabir Ahmad. What happened to Md. Zahid who was supposed to be as fast as Rawalpindi express ?

As for Munaf Patel, He is playing for Mumbai (one of the best teamsin India) and will be selected if he does well for mumbai.
Mohd Zahid was a good bowler unfortunately he lost his way due to injury, he was labelled as the fastets bowler by none other than Indian captain Mohd Azhar.

I haven't seen any Pak MEDIA reports claiming Irshad to be the "next great thing".He has JUST been noted and will take time to establish himself. Umar Gul is a good bowler , he's NOt in the squad for Indian setries because he's injured, as such a replacement in RAO has been called. It was Indian media again that cliamed that Pakistan has a secret weapon in Rao for the Indian series, Bari clarified the reports saying that Rao is only in the squad to get experiance and will probably not get a chance to play in the series atall.

I guess he is working on his action.

 Why the hell would Akhter brag about him? Does Akhter need Irshaad for bragging:lol:  .

Akhter was asked about upcomming express fast bowler in Pak, and he named Irshaad. He never said that Irshaad will derail Brett Lee or will be the next great thing.

Rawalpindi passenger, nice work here. This guy actually think Munaf will derail Akhter, nice to see Robin David's work is realy being appreciated.

Muddaser

School Boy/Girl Captain
irshaad is very fast but isnt ready to play for pakistan according to shoaib. he isnt receiving any hype from the PAK media, it came from shoaib himself.

he will come on the scene just like sami did several yrs ago without any hype.

Stop putting words into my mouth. Rawalpindi passenger was already derailed by MRF on March 1 and then again by Tresco in England. As a bowler only Md. Irshad can derail Rawalpindi Passenger. :)

Of course he does when he is not playing :p

Who needs media from Pakistan when we see Pakistani fans bragging about their fast bowling talent at every given opportunity.

http://forum.cricketweb.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6828

Shoaib bragging some more on Jung :- http://www.jang.com.pk/thenews/nov2003-weekly/nos-30-11-2003/spo.htm#1
Akhter does brag, but he brag about himself. When he talks about Irshaad he's not bragging, what's wrong in saying that Irshaad is very quick and has all the making of a good pacer if he works hard? However had Akhter had compared the rookie with established pacers like Jason or Lee then it would have been stupid.

Its a fact that Pakistan have been producing quality fast bowlers since a long time. Some beleive that some where in Pakistan that there is a conveyor belt producing fast bowlers in Pakistan. If you can't see that then what can i say.

I posted my views to deny Vishnu's claim that Munaf wasn't a case of media hype.

Its a fact that some Pak fans do brag about their fast bowler, but members of this forum knows very well that noone brags more about their fast bowlers talent than Indians.

Just to give you some examples, Balaji is someone's God over here. Nehra and Zaheer were claimed to be the best left armers, and above all, Ajit has been comaperd with Allrounders of the 80's.

In cricket you win some and you lose some. Can you name a single bowler that has won each and every battle on play ground?

If Akhter went for runs on that particular day, then he also won battle against the same oponent in other match.
Oh by the way, the Batsman was SRT and not MRF.If the label on the bat was enough to score runs, then Ajit Agarkar would have used the same label on his bat and would have been king of Mumbai rather than Mumbai duck!

May be one newspaper reporter wrote that story out of 1000s of newspapers in India and it became a media hype ??

Its a fact that some Pak fans do brag about their fast bowler,
Some ?? I would say most. They just brag about everything, they even consider Shahid Afridi as next Richards :)

but members of this forum knows very well that noone brags more about their fast bowlers talent than Indians.
Yeah and Pakistanis think that Yaseer Hameed is the new Sachin Tendulkar, Abdur Razzaq is the greatest all rounder, Saqlain going to be the highest wicket taker in the world, Shahid Afridi next best thing after Richards, Imran better bowler than Lilee, Iftikhar another mcgrath and what not....And you accusing Indians of bragging..:!(

Balaji is actually god of millions of Hindus all over the world, you must have been mistaken. As for Zaheer and Nehra being the best leftarmer in the world, Please show me one post where it has been said(by an Indian) that they are better than AKRAM. Ajit compared to allrounderds of 80s may be 'ajaagarkaraja' has done that.

Zaheer and Nehra have been compared to Akram. And keep religion out of things, please.

Vishnu, had you actually gone through Indian media reports , then you wouldn't have been blaming Pakistanis like this.

Can Munaf derail Rawalpindi Exp?

ROBIN DAVID

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 02, 2003 02:19:00 PM ]

VADODARA: Move over Shoaib; Bret, beat it! The Bharuch Blaster is here.

Yes, if pace legend Dennis Lillee is to be believed, this unknown lad from a nondescript Gujarat village Ikhar in Bharuch has been sending down 140-150 kmph zingers on a regular basis.

So, this means Munaf Patel has been outdoing the Zaheers, Nehras and Agarkars of the national squad on average. And, believe it or not, the country's fastest speedster hasn't played even a Ranji match yet.

So, if you imagine Patel in the national squad, you would be looking at world's most formidable pace attack. And backed by the world's best batting line-up, the next world series could just be India's.

But even if this lad makes it to Team India, his father probably would not be able to watch him on TV. Patel comes from a conservative Muslim family, which doesn't even own a television at home.

The 22-year-old, 6.4-footer Patel caught Lillee's eyes at Chennai's MRF Pace Academy, where he had come for a stint recently. Lillee has now pitted the Bharuch boy against the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly at the on-going training camp at Bangalore to test his mettle.

"We have identified a handful of promising boys to train with the Indian team and Munaf is one of them," says national selector and Baroda Cricket Association secretary Kiran More.

"Sachin and Sourav can have a look at these youngsters. Besides, Kapil Dev will also spend a few days at the camp which will be good for young lads like Munaf," he adds.

Back in Gujarat's local circuit, Patel's scorching deliveries are legendary, especially as they have singed quite a few.

Playing his debut first-class, U-25 match for Gujarat against Saurashtra his bouncer sent off Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah with a broken finger, while another batsman had his ribs tingled.

The rookie himself ended up with five wickets. With another three wickets in the second innings, he ended up with eight in the match.

Patel was first spotted last year by former Gujarat pacer Dhansukh Patel during an inter-district match between Surat and Bharuch. Though coaching the Surat team, Dhansukh could not help but be impressed by the lanky pacer in the opposition who was making wickets tumble at will.

In two matches, Patel notched up 16 wickets and Dhansukh knew he had spotted a diamond. Later, playing for Gujarat, Patel bagged 18 wickets in three matches, mostly by scaring the wits out of the batsmen with his scorchers.

Taking advantage of his height, Patel would make the ball zip across the batsmen's face, many of whom would lob simple catches while fending off rising deliveries.

"We are expecting him to get even better with a little experience," says Gujarat under-25 coach Rajeev Desai.

Gujarat Cricket Association president Narhari Amin has already delivered his verdict: "I would not be surprised if he makes it to the Indian team soon," he says. "He is easily the fastest bowler we have."

His father, Musa Patel, a small-time cotton farmer, proudly offers a perspective to his son's feats. "They are fascinated by his pace, but you should see him bat," says Musa. "Crowds gather in local tournaments just to see him hit sixers!"

It seems India's quest for the Holy Grail has finally ended at this nondescript village in Gujarat.

I hope that answers your question, as a lot of things were said about the lad in that article, interestingly comments of some fans on that article were more hilarious than the article itself.
Now read this artcle carefully, where does the author say that Munaf will derail Rawalpindi ?

He merely says that Munaf is bowling at 140-150 consistently which is better than Nehra, Zahee& agarkar and asks a question - 'CAN munaf derail Rawalpindi. He doesn't say Munaf will derail him.

No, that was just one example, a lot was said about Munaf in Indian press, infact some sane elements did realise that they were putting too much pressure on a promissing youngster by raising expectations

Yeah and Pakistanis think that Yaseer Hameed is the new Sachin Tendulkar, Abdur Razzaq is the greatest all rounder, Saqlain going to be the highest wicket taker in the world, Shahid Afridi next best thing after Richards, Imran better bowler than Lilee, Iftikhar another mcgrath and what not....And you accusing Indians of bragging..
I said that both brags, but Indians on this forum are more notorious. As for Yasir Hameed being new Sachin, i haven't read such a post on this forum.Afridi on the other hand has been bashed by Indian fans on this forum rather harshly.

Some ?? I would say most. They just brag about everything, they even consider Shahid Afridi as next Richards
Thats how you want to see them, no one claims Afridi to be Viv Richards, maybe you are imagining things.

Balaji is actually god of millions of Hindus all over the world, you must have been mistaken. Only you are mistaken.I wasn't talking about respected God Balaji but Indian pacer L Balaji which was praised so highly that the guy was eventually ridiculed on this forum when he went for sixes in his frrst match.

Oh, and i will show you more than one post on Zaheer and Nehra soon.
