ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka

[quote
There is only one favourite - Australia, all others are in with a good chance, but by definition favourite is one. [/quote]

Thats great, coz Favourites are ALWAYS DOOMED in WC.I guess they will enter the WC as Fav and will lose the race in b/w.

The race is much closer than many ppl think, there is not much difference b/w top 5 teams in Aus/SA/Ind/Pak/SL. Aus and SA have the edge on the others, but i would say that all the five teams have a good chance.

You missed out England and NZ!

On their day most teams can beat most other teams, so betting on it or deciding favourites is a risky business.

England is a decent team and it can only improve, because so far they have been playing without some of their key players, when they will return, England will become stronger.

NZ didn't played well in CT, but this team can be a giant killer, maybe the Kiwis will take revenge of their defeat at the hand of Aussie in World Cup, would love that to happen:D

Veteran medium-pacer Javagal Srinath is set to replace Ashish Nehra for the final of the Champions Trophy 2002 which India will play on Sunday.

In an about turn from their earlier position, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acceded to the team's wishes and recalled Srinath, who is currently playing for Leicestershire in England.

Newly appointed secretary of the BCCI, SK Nair said in a statement that the BCCI had agreed to the replacement and this was then okayed by the newly formed selection committee. The International Cricket Council too gave the necessary permission to the Indian team.

Only recently, the chairman of the selection committee, former Karnataka and India cricketer Brijesh Patel, had said that he would try to persuade Srinath to change his mind and return to both Test and one-day cricket.

The honorary secretary of the BCCI also confirmed that Srinath had agreed to leave England immediately and fly to Colombo in order to be here in time for the final.

Nehra injured his bowling hand when he attempted a run out off his bowling against South Africa. The Delhi medium-pacer split the webbing between his index and middle fingers and required five stitches. "

Really interesting , now its going to be a lot more interesting , Srinath has been in good form for Leicestershire. And it would be really good to see him bowling in tandem with Khan

Finally some sensibility. The smart thing to do, besides being the current best bowler for India, he as an obligation to pass on whatever he has learnt on the field. Thats far more valuable (not the shoulder dropping stuff :P).

A Sehwaged India waits to savage Lanka

NEW DELHI: Is this India? Those of us who were fortunate enough to see India beat South Africa must have asked repeatedly: Is this the beginning of a new order in Indian cricket? Is this a tough India? Is this Team New India?

Yes, this is an India with lots of killer instinct, and Viru is its new mascot. He's the aggressor, with an attitude that reminds you of the West Indian power-pair Greenidge and Haynes. He's not afraid to wallop the biggest bowling brands. But the most striking thing about Sehwag is what he doesn't glance: statistics. Like the legendary bully Viv, Viru seems to treat statistics with disdain.

If he continues like that, without succumbing to the temptation of decimal consistency, the cricket world will be blessed with a natural born predator. Sehwag's skills have not been honed on the greens; his reflexes have been sharpened in the concrete jungle. That's the secret of Sehwag's all-weather resilience.

I wonder what Agarkar thinks of all this - overlooked for someone not in the initial squad!

He's not the only person overlooked, Tinu is also in the Squad.Everyone knows that Nath is the best Indian pacer, whoever was choosen ahead of Nath was indeed lucky:P

I posed a question yesterday (and got my head bitten off - quite rightly) that user names were getting sillier.

As a means of redressing the balance, I should like to state here and now that the newspaper article which TM2 brought to our attention is one of the more flowery bits of prose I have ever read this side of Mills and Boon.

Are newspaper reporters getting sillier? I have no argument with the content or the sentiment (he truly could become a GREAT player) but honestly, do they actually pay journalists to write such rot?

I honestly wouldn't have known that, the amount we've discussed Agarkar!

I need to start looking at these sites. They look a good laugh. In fact I think I'll have a go at doing one of my own.

DE SILVA BETTER THAN WARNE

Aravinda de Silva has proven that he is the finest leg spinner the world possesses with a scintillating display of wrist spin. Turning balls effortlessly with the finesse and accuracy of a surgeon, de Silva annihilated the struggling Australians who now must surely be worse than England. Shane Warne then failed to destroy the Lankans in the same way showing beyond doubt that he cannot match Aravinda.

And the final?

Heart says Sri Lanka, Head says India. Unless Sehwag goes early.

Time to start a 'silly reports' thread - probably in Off Topic - where the more creative writing instincts can come to the fore - something like 'Cry Havoc! and let Lewis the dogs of Waugh'

Still got a few horrorscopes to do - will start the new idea next week (just to see how it goes - if it turns out as rubbish or I'm the only one doing silly reports then I'll abandon the idea quick). Mind you, I'll have to go some to beat those two Indian reporters that TM2 posted - they were mental! (I loved it really)

ICC final washed out....

I felt that SL struggled to make 244 and could have been contained to 30 or 40 runs less if Indian fielders had taken all the catches that they spilled, specially Tendulkar....horrendous catching from Sachin, who is normally a pretty good fielder.

The wicket was slow and the ball was keeping low at times, and am not sure what will happen on Monday after the showers today.

Also Srinath looked pretty rusty.
