How Are You Doing On CM?

Its one i always come back to. Must be the casual xenophobe in me (ruing the beautiful game etc)

That and its quite a challenge to make a good team out of English players. Usually kick the foreigners out in the editor first to give me a bit more cash to start with and save me from being sacked for ruining the team, but this time havent.

Probably was with Utd last time too. Never really done more than a season at it, ive had few saves to go on for a few years TBH.

Just signed a gun goalkeeper for Kelentan. 14 year old Brazilian keeper who looks like he's the next Jose Luis Chilavert, Rene Higuita or Rogerio Ceni. At 14 he already has 10 for free-kick taking, 16 for eccentricity, 15 for agility, 12 command of area, and then a load of 10-12's for handling, reflexes, concentration, rushing out, so looks like he's going to be awesome. Been wanting a goal-scoring goalkeeper for a while, so pretty cool that I've randomly found one. Probably shouldn't have agreed to sign him for Kelantan though, as the transfer doesn't go through until 2016, and I'm hoping to be long gone by then. Will just have to sign him when I get to a new club. Probably the most exciting goalkeeper regen I've found on the game.

3 points clear in the league, with 4 games to go, but on a bit of a skid. Not won in 6 games, so really need to turn that around, especially as I have an Asian Confederations Cup Quarter Final coming up. Be pretty immense to win the league, and ACC in first season in Malaysia!

So reinstalled FM13 (checked on steam and 14 is still £35, balls to that)

Think I'm going to take over Utd and only play British players, be interesting to see how quick I can shift the likes of Van Persie and if i can give myself enough money to buy decent home grown talent.
I think it's finally time Ashley Young was given the much deserved captain's armband.

Thats the one downside to this plan, I'll have to use Young for a bit because I'm shipping out Nani and Valencia, I've got Nathan Redmond on his way in, and I think I agreed terms with Gary Mackay-Steven (who in treading the same route as Ralph Milne has a lot to live up to)

The degree of difficulty I face is evident in the fact my first (and so far only confirmed) signing is Phil Neville. Resisted the urge to try and bring John O'Shea back.

With a starting budget of £25m (now upto £42m as somehow Benfica think Anderson's worth £10m), its going to be a tough first 6 months as I won't be able to bring in true international quality unless I blow the budget on one player - likely it'll be either Baines or Walcott if I do. Just hope the board free me some more cash for January.

Presume he means that he's no longer picking him? I've done that in the past too. Fined someone for getting sent off, them having a bitch, and then refusing to use them again. Eventually, they get over it and try and crawl their way back in, but a bust-up always leads to me selling the player for whatever I can get for them.

Djalminha was the king back in the day. Incredible player, but a **** of the highest order. Had him go AWOL on CM01/02 after a number of bust-ups.
Haha in a game I had on CM01/02 Djalminha was transferred about 5 times in once summer. Bayern kept signing him then getting rid of him.

Mesto's a curious signing, how's he gone?
Nothing special, but given I didn't have a single player who could play in the right midfield in my team, I figured I'd grab him on the cheap to chuck on the bench if I change formation at some point -- especially since he has good stats for a squad player (teamwork, work rate etc.)

Very much a filler player; will probably go next transfer window assuming I have some cash.

Then I got Simone Pepe on loan, so Mesto became rather irrelevant.

Just knocked over Elche 8-0, hat-trick to Cristiano Ronaldo and a first half brace to Benzema before I subbed him (first game back from injury and he was tiring).

Bayern always seemed to be interested in him. Shame he was such a nutcase, his attributes were awesome, could have been one of the best players on the game.

Fair play. Guessing you don't have Bale on your save? I tend to go for youth when I just want a back-up squad player. Someone like Agustin Allione is always a good young right winger. He's good enough from the start to fill in and do a job when needed, but if trained correctly, becomes a beast.

Won the Malaysian Super League, in the Quarter Finals of the Malaysia Cup, and just qualified for the Semi Finals of the Asian Confederations Cup, things going well for Kelantan. Hopefully I'll win all 3 this season, and be able to move on to a decent job in Europe, or elsewhere. Was expecting the Asian leg of the Pentagon Challenge to be one of the hardest, so quite pleased with how it's started.

Restarted and asked for a random job and was given Histon.

Might be a bit too easy with them as half the youth team are down as potentially becoming League 1 players. Just wait till they improve and rise the leagues with them I think.

Yeah, I do have Bale in the game. Him plus Ronaldo is an absolute beast of a combination.

Just lost 2-0 to some random Ukrainian team in the Champions League group stage. Not happy.

Have you not been using Bale as an AMR then? with Ronaldo on the left? I had him there for my Bayern side, and he was an absolute beast. Probably the best AMR on the game, other than maybe Lamela, who scores a ludicrous amount of goals from AMR.

Since he came back from injury, I've had him at AML with Ronaldo on the right.

Prior to the transfer window I didn't have a single player capable of playing MR if I switched to that type of formation.

----------------------- Casillas -----------------------
Marcelo ---- Pepe ---- Ramos ---- Cavarjal
------------- Alonso --------- Bender -------------
------------------------ Modric ------------------------
-------------- Bale ---------- Ronaldo -------------
---------------------- Benzema ----------------------

My wide defenders are both set as Wing Backs
Alonso I have playing as a Regista, Bender as an Anchor
Modric's Box-to-Box
Bale as an Advanced Playmaker, Ronaldo as an Inside Forward
Benzema as an Advanced Forward

Might swap Bale and Ronaldo over and see how it goes; I've already given them the instruction that they can switch from right to left if they want.

No idea if my tactics are any good tbh.

My tactic would have Bender as a CM alongside Modric, as a ball winning midfielder, but don't think it really matters too much, I just like the balance of having 2 CM's and a Regista/deep lying playmaker in the DMC position. Are you playing Bale and Ronaldo as AMRC/AMLC? Or are they playing wider than it looks on your tactic? I'd give it a go swapping them around, and set them both to Inside Forward, they'll absolutely destroy defences. Bale's so good if you can keep him fit, was leading scorer in the Bundesliga for me as an AMR. I love a good goalscoring AMR inside forward. Lamela for example can be a 30 goal a season player from that position.

They're both playing out on their respective wings.

Might have a crack with Bender as a CM; I get the feeling my tactic has been a bit defence-heavy with a DMRC and DMLC.

That formation actually looks really interesting. Might have to trial it out.

Yeah, I was going to say, I bet you don't concede many goals. But if you set up the wingbacks to really attack, you probably wouldn't have trouble scoring many either.

I'd just worry about getting over-run in midfield having two players really deep, and only Modric playing a more traditional central midfield position. Have found that a DMC Regista, and 2 CM's, with one as a BWM is pretty much the perfect balance in midfield. Can't remember ever being rolled over when using that formation, normally very solid in defence, but the balanced midfield gives the wingers serious freedom, and results in them scoring heaps of goals.

The keeper regen I was mentioning the other day. Can't wait to sign him and be able to play him, gonna be straight on free-kick duty. Gonna be a gun keeper.

Yep. I had a somewhat similar (WBL/WBR, DMC, CM, and AML/AMR) away formation on my Southend save, and would routinely give up around 60% possession because the opposition would just pass it around in midfield. The other side-effect was that my CM would tire out quickly trying to chase the ball. Solid defence, considering I had two CBs and a SW, but it really limited scoring opportunites. Flip side was that the few chances would usually prove to be good ones on the counter since the passing outlets were so well-defined.

My problem is I'm a sucker for a 4-4-2. Tend to have 2CMs (BWM and AP), my wingers as AM R/L (either wing or inside forward, not fussed - had Shaqiri going great guns cutting in from the right on my last save. One season he set up 24 goals in 26 games before getting injured). Then I'll have a DLP and Poacher up front.

Got through to first game of the season rather underwhelming in the transfer market on my British team save. Fans getting giddy over the following

Phil Neville - £0.25m
Nathan Redmond - £5m
Alex Smithies - £2.8m
Ryan Gauld - £0.5m
Tony Watt - £3.3m
Will Hughes - £5.25m
Gary Mackay-Steven - £2.2m
Kris Boyd - Free
Ryan Taylor - £3m
Neil Taylor - £5.5m

A hefty bunch of solid but unspectacular, but without really overpaying. Many a good youngster who I know will come good (I had both Watt and Hughes on my last Utd save, Hughes fast becoming the best midfielder around and Watt being a great supersub up front).

Then on the morning of the first game, at home to City, I unleashed the beasts -
George Green (Everton 'better pot than Barclay' kid) - £5.75m
Kyle Walker - £19m
The Ox - £22.5m

Thats my budget from all my sales gone, though I've still a few foreigners to get rid of - one good thing is Bale is still at Spurs on FM13, so will try and see if I can convince the board to go for broke on him, probably in Jan.

Alas lost the first game 3-1. Welbeck and Watt were injured, but Boyd scored on his debut. City getting the 3rd in the 91st min as I chased the game. Was quite even until then

Ryan Taylor, I love that man

Started a new game with Wigan. Top of the league by 2 points with 2 in hand just as the window has opened. Still in the Europa league too.

The main problem I have is about 8 players are pissed off about not getting enough game time so the board are up my arse about that
