Another handy lower order batsman thst comes to mind was Paul Reiffel. In Test matches - 955 runs @ 26.52. Very good. He fitted in nicely into the Aust batting line-up in the 1990s.
Class cricketer. Bowled it on a sixpence too.

Absolutely. It once again highlights that really strong era for Aust cricket in the 1990s through to the mid 2000s. Just the depth in batsman and bowlers was unbelievable.

Interestingly, Reiffel's debut and retirement coincided with 2 epic Sachin centuries. Perth 92 and Chennai 98.

Iirc Reiffel was injured after that opening India Test. From the Pakistan tour later that year McGrath was back with Damien Fleming generally preferred.

Fleming is one of those players where it's crazy he only played 20 tests. Felt like he was a way bigger part of the side
Dean Headley is similar with English cricketers of that generation. A shame his body couldn't last longer as he was a serious bowler.

After his impressive debut 94/95 Ashes, was sidelined by injury and iirc lost form.
Had some terrific Tests in the 99/00 home summer but once Brett Lee arrived on the scene, he barely got a look in.

I think it's being a big part of some very famous WC matches (in 96 and 99) which lead to his legacy being perhaps inflated in my mind. He's featured in plenty of '99 highlights
