In the matches they played together, Trumper had 4 150+ score (one of them was a double ton), where Hill had 2. And Trumper was certainly way better on wet wickets (both were considered equals on flat pitches). It can be argued that Trumper was the best wet wicket player. And add to that the fact that Trumper scored his runs at a S/R of 70, which means he scored as fast as Viv Richards.
He suffered from several health conditions, which made him less consistent.

Clem Hill on the other hand had a pathetic strike rate of 59 more akin to a Ricky Ponting. Disgusting.

Gooch as an opener, Trumper overall as a player maybe

There is obviously no statistical proof but swing was Gooch's main nemesis so he'd probably fare better/a lot better in the middle order with a proper sample size
