Ken Barrington makes it to the top 10 on pretty much everyone list but no one rates him highly.
Yeah he is very underrated. But don't expect everyone to rate him in the top 10. The PEWS Ranking had Chanderpaul at 13, DoG had Chanderpaul at 20; So, based on that, should we also rank Chanders in the top 20?

Chanderpaul's the only batsman I've seen who I'm convinced just consciously played for his average every time he went out to bat. As a result he has a pretty average. Any analysis based primarily on average is going to over-rate him.

Barrington was a slow scorer and he over-performed in Tests but he wasn't just trying to rig the system.

Tbh, That could be said about Barrington too. Barrington was a dashing strokeplayer early in his career but when he was dropped by England, he vowed to get back in the side by never giving his wicket away so easily ever again.

Chanderpaul has many holes in his record.

Ken Barrington averaged 45 in WestIndies, 50 in England and 70+ in other countries he played.

This makes me respect him even more. He found a chink in his armour, repaired it and went one to become arguably the toughest batsman to dismiss

Barrington was trying to maximise his run-scoring. What Chanderpaul did was a whole other level - when batted with the tail he'd deliberately take singles to get them on strike so he could finish with not outs. He also refused to bat above 5 late in his career for presumably the same reason. I don't think either of those accusations have been levelled at Barrington - just "scored slowly, wasn't that great in county cricket".

I never realized it was that bad, I apologize for comparing Barrington to him.

Actually the low average in FC is explainable. He played for Surrey; and throughout the 50s, the Oval was possibly the most bowler friendly pitch in the country.
