GB - an important question.

Having said all that, Paid's comment does not necessarily provide the solution to getting rid of extra draft picks that you're not allowed to have.
Example:
If I keep the 10 players I listed, I could trade say T.Roberts for someone's 2nd round draft pick. That would leave me with 7 draft picks which is not allowed (my 1st and 2nd, someone elses 2nd, my 3rd, Tassies 5th, my 5th and 6th). So I'd have to trade off my 6th round draft pick to somebody for a real crappy player and then leave him out just to meet the rules! The problem is, what if nobody will accept?! My team is not allowed to forfeit a draft pick as I understand it.
Maybe the answer in a case like this is just to drop the extra draft pick, so one is therefore able to rearrange their draft picks to their advantage by trading good unwanted players.
Using this scenario, a player who'd traded away their 1st 2nd and 3rd draft picks for players would still have to name 10 players and their draft picks would be their 4th 5th and 6th. Then there would be extra draft rounds(7th 8th and 9th for this player) as in American Football to allow such players to make up their numbers.

U've confused me Graham...

Ok to make it easier for everyone, i think i will stick with my original plan...

All teams will retain 16 players or equivalent to 16 players, at least this system is very understandable...

As for having to many DP's, im pretty sure there are a few teams around who will dispose of a player to pick up a DP, if it comes down to the Crunch then i think as a LAST resort then teams will be allowed to drop 1 DP (NO MORE!!!!)...

This decision may not be accepted by some but im sure u will understand that due to this being the 1st season its very difficult to see how it will all plan out, all i can say is it will be a learning curve for the future seasons...

This Decision is mine and solely mine so if there are any comments please direct them at me...

I am willing to trade for draft picks if anyone wants my players - name the player and I will say what pick(s) I want.

Yeah, i should clarify this a bit better...

U can keep up to 16 players in the cull, BUT if u keep 16 then u would have to get rid of all your draft picks....

so keep 15 u get 1 DP
keep 14 u get 2 DP
13 = 3
12 = 4
11 = 5
10 = 6
9 = 7
8 = 8

and so on......
:D :D :D :D
All this discussion has made me heaps confused....so is this the policy we will use?

Well, I have planned my team to keep 11, and have 5 draft picks..
As long as I get to do that..

Right... Been in bed so couldn't contribute earlier.

As for not allowing to drop the draft picks, Why? Because if you think about it the team will only be disadvantaging themself, by losing a chance of picking up a quality player in the draft.

But I know the matter is closed and I accecpt the new ruling

No, surely the idea is to even it out, and only allowing them to keep 10.

If you allow a manager to keep an 11th player at the expense of a draft pick, he knows who he's going to get, and will try and keep these players if they're really good.

I personally think that the only fair way is if players are traded for drafts then fair enough, but wha a bout a rule meaning players traded cannot then be dropped?

That's intresting Marc.. Would they be classed as part of the 10? or just that you must take them through to the next season.. And take up your squad space, meaning that less players could be drafted in?

Include them in the 10.

Obviously it couldn't be implemented this year as it's far too late in the trading.

GB has stated that a team can only keep 11 players and drop a draft pick as a 'last resort'.
Otherwise everybody should be retaining 10 players only.
A 'last resort' would have to mean some pretty special circumstances!

No this is the key phrase...
All teams will retain 16 players or equivalent to 16 players, at least this system is very understandable...

This allows teams to retain up to 16 players before the draft, which means they can trade away all their DP's for players.....

I feel if you trade right u should end up with equivalent to 16 players, i know i have targeted that myself all the way through the process,

So does that mean that the number of players you retain is based on how many drafts you have?

In other words if you trade away 2 drafts, you have 12 retained.

So long as the trading of drafts aren't stupid, that seems OK.

Including something along the line of my idea about having to retain players drafted in would prevent silly trades which are within the letter of the law, but not the spirit.

Yes

Therefore if you keep :-

10 players you have 6 picks
11 players you have 5 picks
12 players you have 4 picks
13 players you have 3 picks
14 players you have 2 picks
15 players you have 1 pick
16 players you have 0 picks

Yeah basically if you get rid of 2 DP's then you can retain 12 players...

Some may want to trade away all there DP's and get good players, that way they would keep 16 players, but i would really like to see people trying to do something useful with their DP's, whether it be trade them for players or use them, i don't want them to be wasted, I am stil allowing teams to drop 1 DP providing they get approval from myself...

GB - I would like to keep 11 players and drop my 6th draft pick. Do I have your permission?
Also, if somebody trades away a draft pick for a player, are they obliged to name this player as one of the 11 retained?

David

International 12th Man
Here's how I have done it.
I haved traded 2 of my draft picks, and a player, for 2 players and a draft pick
this gives me 5 draft picks, and I get to keep 11 players, 2 of those being the players I traded for
This means hat somewhere out there, somebody will have 7 draft picks, and only get to retain 9 players, I am happy, and they should be happy too, as they get better chances of drafting high quality players, whereas I have less chance of drafting quality, but I have a nice starting XI which, although not the greatest, can be built upon with my limited selection of draft picks..

Thats what trading is all about :) in effect you are drafting a pick when you get rid of a trade, for instance, my first draft pick (traded) was for Ricky Ponting, making him in effect my first pick in the draft, seeing as I no longer have one. :) :) and my third draft pick (also traded) was for David Saker... of course, I gave up a player too, for a draft pick.. which is all good :) sure, you say, "your team sucks", and "Shut the Hell up David", but I can handle that :)
