England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

He'll continue playing not only franchise but also domestic cricket, per RNZ – that's nice.
and also good for Kris Clarke, playing alongside Southee for a season could help push him into Black Caps by end of next season - depending on success / lack of injuries for Smith and Foulkes.

I thought he'd try to go on to the Aussie tour in two summers, so that's a relief in a way.

I actually feel like I can sit back and enjoy the final days of his career now, especially after his epic knock in the first Test in India
I reckon 6 months ago that was the plan. Obviously his form has been poor but I think the emergence of O’Rourke, Sears looking handy and the rapid improvement of Foulkes he was probably told his career was coming to a close.

Our bowling stocks with Henry, Jamieson, O’Rourke, Foulkes, Sears, Smith and even Duffy are looking solid now. Add in Fisher and Clarke and that’s a solid 10 guys.

Santner definitely not playing the first Test then. I think we'll probably see a Smith dayboo ahead of Duffy, for his batting.

I feel sorry for Duffy, he was in the test squad two years ago after Henry and Boult not available, lost out in playing XI to Tickner (OK) and Kuggeleijn (argh), and assume now he will carry drinks for 1st test then get dropped from squad.

If Sears returns from injury, and Foulkes and Kris Clarke have a good Plunket Shield season, he might have missed a chance of a test cap.

I think he's a lot more of a chance with Southee retiring. Firstly perhaps too similar to Southee to play together, secondly Henry is now the only experienced seamer, and they might like Duffy and his long FC career around for that reason.

He probably doesn't make my first choice seam attack a year from now, but there will injuries and I think he'll play a few tests, which gives him a chance if he excels.

Southee should get 15 to get his 400 wickets.
Been a long time since he averaged 5 wickets a match so think he may just come up short. Really gunning for him to do it though.
Let's hope he doesn't get to 399 only for a mate to drop a stone cold sitter.

Tim Southee has only had one 15+ wicket series in his entire Test career, that was against West Indies back in 2013

Just reading how chuffed Southee is about going out against McCullum and England. I hope that doesn't mean Stead will feel obliged to play him even if he shouldn't be in the final XI. I think we all know the answer to that though. They'll play him in 1 test at the very least.
