So long ago that Broad would have been a prized wicket!Wow. One that seems both 'I can't believe it was so long ago' and 'that's ancient history' at the same time.
Like Vettori at retirement, seeing the fresh face on debut is unreal. A bowling action that wasn't yet what it grew into. Fleming and Vaughan playing (the latter being Southee's first test wicket and even managed to not act like a pillock). Random Matthew Bell and Jamie How. Jeets, Ryan Sidebottom. Cool that Stuart Broad was one of Southee's first wickets too - careers in parallel.
Even weirder, would be possible to dig up that CW thread and see what everyone thought at the time.
Also Grant Elliot debuted in the same test as SoutheeWow. One that seems both 'I can't believe it was so long ago' and 'that's ancient history' at the same time.

Here you go mate... Pretty busy damn thread, 302 pages, albeit half of them being Richard's posts.Even weirder, would be possible to dig up that CW thread and see what everyone thought at the time.

God damn I love digging through these old threads.Try and tell me James Anderson or Harmison are better than Mills, Martin and co.
The scoop from back in 2008 says he was decent, yeah.So long ago that Broad would have been a prized wicket!
Broad was pretty lucky, more than half his runs came off the edge of the bat. But he still batted comfortably better than any other English batsman besides Pietersen.
You know, I'm gonna stand by it.God damn I love digging through these old threads.
That's the spirit. I'm pretty sure I probably argued at some point that James Franklin would become a better allrounder than Flintoff. You know, I'm gonna stand by it.
GM bats have really gone out of fashionI actually can't believe this was nearly 17 years ago.
Used one of Fleming's bats when he got his 77.Just remembered Southee’s debut was also Stephen Fleming’s final test. That’s quite a decisive last link.
He should have kept using it, it's still his best test knock and I doubt he will beat it in this series.Used one of Fleming's bats when he got his 77.
When he didn't set the world on fire in 22/23 (and tbh no one really expected him to), NZ uncharacteristically decided to roll the dice on youngsters Will O'Rourke and Ben Sears who both made fine starts to their careers. Tickner's actually been doing pretty good work in domestic cricket, so I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility of seeing him again at some point, but he's a fair way down the pecking order now. Besides, the only vacant spot in the attack at the moment is Jamieson's and NZ want someone who can bat a bit to fill his shoes. What happened to Blair Tickener btw?
Now that the squad's out, definitely not. He's not even back playing domestics yet. We've got no idea when his international comeback could be: either the Pakistan tour at the end of the summer or Zimbabwe midyear.Speaking of KJ where is he at these days. Is he any chance of playing this series?
