England (and Wales) gloom, doom and recriminations thread

Seriously why not Vince? He is only 30 and averages 40 in FC cricket. Jut looks all class too

Think I asked this question recently on a subforum thread and someone said something. Can't recall who it was or what he said
They already tried him and he was as bad as the rest. He also made himself a meme by trying to drive every delivery wide of offstump and nicking behind for all of his dismissals.

He looked like a test batsman though and I can’t say that to most of the guys England have tried. I see he bats at 5 in County cricket so maybe that is where he should be tried not at 3.

He looked good in Australia last time. Unfortunately he didn't look up to it in England against the Duke ball, which is obviously a problem if your aspiration is to play for England.

He's moved down the order at County Level, he's played more at 3 and 4 I think.

Feel a bit for England. It’s been a hell of a schedule for them over the past year, 15 tests all against the top 3 ranked sides in the world all while MIQ requirements have made playing cricket an utterly miserable experience. Very hard for such an inexperienced batting lineup to come through that without some serious scars.

Covid has made it more difficult, but I said during the 2019 Ashes that if we turn up with a similar squad in Australia they would die laughing. I was wrong in the sense that it's more pity than laughter.

TBH they did have 6 of those at home but yeah these cycles can make or break teams. I feared the same for India with the schedule we had in 2018/19 and repeated in 2021/22.

No confidence going in to the future, I guess on the tour of WI we will still go with the same pace attack who did ok bar Woakes. Buttler should be dropped as should Pope and Hameed but I think only Hameed will be. No idea what side we will go with, I think only Root, Crawley, Stokes, Bairstow, Anderson, Broad, Wood and Robinson are certainties to be in the touring party if all are available. All other places are up for grabs though.

You will be playing with Dukes though and that should help. I would honestly try Bess as the spinner. Windies gonna come with some lefties anyways and he could get some confidence through these games. Leach a good and more consistent spinner for sure but Bess has a bit more upside IMO as an overall player and you may need that, esp. if Stokes misses this series or cannot bowl or whatever.

I still don't see any realistic option for captain other than Root. Stokes is even less of a realistic option than ever, he needs less of a workload, not more, and there are literally no other names you can put forward without it sounding laughable. Root is at least demanding of respect as a leader on performance.

Quality person too, despite the memes and jokes on here. Have been impressed with the way he's conducted himself on tour, especially with those videos of him helping out local kids with their batting after his own nets etc

I honestly wont mind Broad doing it for a couple of years while they figure who the next guy is.

Well they want shooting if Stokes misses the series after picking him this week for a pointless match. I am presuming the injury is a 4 to 6 week problem so he should be fine, if not then questions need asking of all concerned.

Bess is diabolical

England do not have enough riches in the spin cupboard to ignore Parkinson

As laughable as it may sound, Sam Curran and Bess are guys I think you should invest in. Maybe figure out a packed Lions program and get them fit and primed and moving. These A games can often happen within one city or state and so the covid bubbles and travel fatigue may not be as much in those tours. If both or even one of them click on enough to be a test regular, you have solved a big piece of your puzzle for the near term future.
