Welcome back. This is the biggest total CW have conceded all World Cup, and in both matches they lost, CW batted second. It is a very tall order indeed.
0.0 CW reshuffle the batting order! Interesting. Camps and Chaulk stride to the wicket.
0.5 Lee to Chaulk, FOUR, nice way to get off the mark opening. Beautiful stroke.
1.4 Bracken to Camps, no run, ooh! beaten just outside the off stump. Good swing bowling by the Aussies so far.
2.6 Lee to Camps, FOUR, boundaries are going to be important, not too many singles given away, very sharp fielding by Australia
3.2 Bracken to Chaulk, FOUR, another fine hit, this one a pull shot through midwicket
6.3 Lee to Chaulk, FOUR, smashed through midwicket yet again, Chaulk is doing a fine job of this opening malarkey
6.4 Lee to Chaulk, no ball, one run, Lee oversteps, Australia are shaken now
8.2 Gillespie to Chaulk, FOUR, finds the boundary yet again, straight through the gap at cover
9.1 Bracken to Camps, FOUR, short, Camps pulls away with ease
9.2 Bracken to Camps, FOUR, short and on the off, Camps steps back and drives straight
9.6 Bracken to Camps, FOUR, and again short, Bracken hasn't learned, once again a back foot drive, that's 18 off the over
10.5 Gillespie to Camps, FOUR, this one on a length but Camps still manages to play it off the back foot, nicely worked away
11.6 Bracken to Camps, no run, full and outside off, beats Camps
12.2 Gillespie to Chaulk, WICKET, end of the cameo, time for the serious stuff, Chaulk is trapped lbw by a fine ball that jags back into him
Code:
Chaulk lbw b Gillespie 36 (32b, 4x4)
Score: 78/1
13.6 Tait to Markus, no run, beaten outside off stump, nice starting over from Tait, just two conceded
16.6 Gillespie to Camps, no run, beaten again, Camps has been completely bamboozled as Australia have gone back to their full length bowling
20.6 Symonds to Camps, one run, a quiet single, 13 off the last five over, this really isn't good enough
21.3 Tait to Camps, FOUR, edged past first slip
21.6 Tait to Camps, FOUR, pulled away, Camps beginning to realise the danger again
23.1 Tait to Camps, FOUR, strikes straight past the bowler
25.6 Bracken to Camps, three runs, cut away and a misfield hands CW XI two runs
29.1 Bracken to Camps, WICKET, big drive goes straight to Gillespie, taken
Code:
LA Camps c Gillespie b Bracken 78 (96b, 8x4)
Score: 146/2
Maybe Markus will realise something too. He's on 29* off 47...
30.1 Symonds to Markus, three runs, smashed over the bowler's head, risky stroke gives runs
31.3 Bracken to Markus, FOUR, another fine shot, Markus has finally settled in
31.6 Bracken to Markus, three runs, slog sweep off the slower ball!
32.2 Symonds to Goff, FOUR, driven away nicely
33.5 Gillespie to Markus, no run, hit straight to the fielder again, Markus can't quite find the gaps right now
34.1 Symonds to Markus, FOUR, that's the half-century, well brought up with another sweep shot
34.6 Symonds to Markus, WICKET, full delivery, tries to sweep and oh! missed completely and it just nabs middle stump, bowled for 51 and CW are three down with nearly eight an over required
Code:
I Markus b Symonds 51 (68b, 2x4)
Score: 187/3
35.2 Gillespie to Goff, WICKET, RUN OUT! Set off for a risky single and Goff is run out with a flat throw at the bowler's end
Code:
Goff run out 18 (16b)
Score: 187/4
35.5 Gillespie to Dauth, no run, DROPPED! probably not crucial given the rate they're going at present, but a poor effort from Bracken at mid off nevertheless
37.1 Gillespie to Dauth, SIX, dropped short and hoiked over square leg, big shot
37.4 Gillespie to Butler, one run, finally off the mark
39.1 Gillespie to Butler, OUT, nicks behind, this isn't really his ideal situation
Code:
Butler c Gilchrist b Gillespie 6 (12b)
Score: 208/5
39.2 Gillespie to Robbins, three runs, pulled away nicely, 88 needed off 64
40.3 Lee to Dauth, OUT, short, invites the pull, Dauth hoiks to find Ponting, needed to go on at that rate and just went for one expansive stroke too mahy
Code:
Dauth c Ponting b Lee 21 (15b, 2x4, 1x6)
Score: 220/6
40.6 Lee to Halsey, no run, dot ball, can't make contact outside off
41.5 Symonds to Halsey, FOUR, desperate sweep shot, somehow makes contact with the middle of the bat, away past square leg. 69 needed off 49
43.2 Tait to Robbins, OUT, once again Ponting holds a catch, and with only three wickets left CW have a mountain to climb. 62 needed off 39
Code:
Robbins c Ponting b Tait 11 (11b)
Score: 237/7
44.5 Lee to Hoy, one run, full ball, finally makes contact, it's just a bottom edge though, easy catch for Lee shelled, the batsmen cross for a suicidal single
45.3 Tait to Hoy, three runs, slog sweep, through midwicket, but there's surely too much needed now
46.5 Lee to Halsey, no run, beautiful delivery, Halsey cramped up makes contact with both bat and pad, ball pops up off the ground to short leg, appeal for lbw turned down
47.5 Tait to Halsey, SIX, finally the sweep makes its way to the boundary, but 37 needed off 13
49.6 Tait to Hoy, three runs, they trudge three on the very final ball, as if they're hoping the ball to vanish in grass or something, it doesn't matter, Australia have triumphed by 22 runs and were always on top in this final once they found the right length against Camps and Markus. A fine effort, and Australia are worthy winners despite their one group stage lapse.
