CW XI v Australia @ Sydney. World Cup Final

Conditions: Hot and sunny day, as it's been in Sydney for some days. The outfield is dry and quick, and the pitch has plenty of bounce. Could be a very high-scoring game here.

Toss: Australia, bat

Ponting is not afraid to bat against the CW XI, not even when reminded that this team bowled them out for 158 after Australia batted first in their group match.

6.2 Hoy to Gilchrist, FOUR, on fire, quick outside off stump, but Gilchrist cuts square, fine shot and another boundary

7.6 Camps to Jaques, FOUR, just short of a length, middle stump line, Jaques pulls well away through the near-vacant leg side, it rolls calmly away for four
8.3 Hoy to Gilchrist, WICKET, beauty! full, swinging away a tad, he's bowled there all day and finally reaps the rewards, Gilchrist's attempted cut shot takes the bottom edge and through to gloveman Chaulk who almost instinctively dives forward, fabulous catch and CW strike back

15.6 Pickup to Jaques, no run, beaten again, extra flight from Pickup, Jaques swipes and misses, what was that?!
16.2 Robbins to Ponting, FOUR, slow and wide outside the off stump, Ponting steps back and hammers it through cover
17.2 Pickup to Ponting, FOUR, reads Pickup's big spinner well and drives it away
21.6 Pickup to Ponting, no run, hit straight to the fielder, fifth dot ball
23.6 Pickup to Jaques, WICKET, the big hoik! Pickup offers a ball on a good length, waiting to be hit, Jaques mistimes and the ball goes up to square leg where Goff takes it after a long, long time in the air, easiest catch you'll ever see

Need to break this partnership up pretty soon or else could be looking at a pretty severe score to chase.

Not that it won't be easy with Pickup at 10.

Score: 147/2
26.2 Patrick to Martyn, FOUR, full and slapped straight back, beautiful shot to get off the mark
29.3 Pickup to Martyn, SIXXX, comes down the track and reads the ball exquisitely in flight, smashed over midwicket for a glorious six
29.5 Pickup to Ponting, FOUR, and again, this time just short of the boundary

31.0 Markus on to give the ball a twirl. Interesting choice.
33.4 Markus to Ponting, no run, incredible! a slow, innocuous delivery, does just enough to beat the bat of Ponting, fourth successive dot!
34.2 Halsey to Ponting, no run, slider from Halsey, pitches on middle, how on earth did Ponting not hit that! Huge appeal all round, umpire must have seen an edge no one else did
36.1 Halsey to Ponting, FOUR, gift-wrapped delivery, lots of flight, little turn and Ponting whacks it to the square leg fence
36.4 Halsey to Ponting, WICKET, stunning! another big drive, they've gone out in the field all day but this one finds Robbins at mid off, very well held catch and Halsey has a wicket

Code:
Ponting c Robbins b Halsey 73 (86b, 5x4)
Score: 209/3
37.3 Markus to Clarke, FOUR, bang. Clarke stamps authority with a huge shot, well executed, Markus finally getting the stick
37.4 Markus to Clarke, FOUR, smashed to the cover fence again
40.2 Halsey to Clarke, wide, down the leg side, not the place to bowl at this stage
41.2 Pickup to Martyn, WICKET, slices that to Hoy, who runs in from third man and holds a fine catch, fielding has been excellent today

Code:
Martyn c Hoy b Pickup 31 (39b, 2x4, 1x6)
Score: 238/4
42.2 Hoy to Clarke, WICKET, the death machine. Inswinging yorker, Clarke inside edges, and he's bowled for 26. Classic dismissal - can Hoy keep them down here?

Code:
Clarke b Hoy 26 (22b, 4x4)
Score: 240/5
43.2 Robbins to Symonds, SIX, slower ball hoiked out of the ground, think they need to rely on Markus and Halsey here
43.4 Robbins to Hussey, three runs, smashed to the cover boundary for more runs
44.6 Hoy to Hussey, wide, swings away too much for Hussey, too much for the umpire as well, calls that one wide
45.5 Halsey to Symonds, no run, another huge appeal for lbw, Halsey's slider has been very successful
46.1 Hoy to Hussey, FOUR, exquisite cover drive, Hussey looking in prime touch
46.2 Hoy to Hussey, WICKET, yes, he was, honestly! Hoy pulls out another of these unplayable yorkers for another wicket, though, leaving Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds to up the run rate

Code:
MEK Hussey b Hoy 15 (14b, 1x4)
Score: 268/6
46.3 Hoy to Lee, three runs, smacked away calmly, well fielded
47.2 Halsey to Symonds, FOUR, another boundary for Symonds, fine shot
47.4 Halsey to Symonds, no run, flipper from Halsey, using all variations here and some of them are coming off, dot balls very crucial
48.5 Hoy to Symonds, SIX, smacked over midwicket
49.6 Halsey to Lee, three runs, poor ball to end the over, too wide outside the off stump and Lee glances it down to fine leg, well fielded by Goff but not enough, Australia post a target of 299 to win this game

Welcome back. This is the biggest total CW have conceded all World Cup, and in both matches they lost, CW batted second. It is a very tall order indeed.

0.0 CW reshuffle the batting order! Interesting. Camps and Chaulk stride to the wicket.
0.5 Lee to Chaulk, FOUR, nice way to get off the mark opening. Beautiful stroke.
1.4 Bracken to Camps, no run, ooh! beaten just outside the off stump. Good swing bowling by the Aussies so far.
2.6 Lee to Camps, FOUR, boundaries are going to be important, not too many singles given away, very sharp fielding by Australia
3.2 Bracken to Chaulk, FOUR, another fine hit, this one a pull shot through midwicket
