I got Warne ~ Murali but Barnes over either pretty clearly so it's contextually different for me.

Ok. Back to the argument though, I find it hard to separate Warne and Murali too, as I do with Hadlee and McGrath, Steyn and Imran, and Ambrose and Lillee.

I misinterpreted his argument actually. Mine was that either Barnes should be ahead all top tier ATGs or behind.

I mean, he has already made it clear why he rates Marshall & McGrath ahead of Barnes, so no room for misinterpretation really.

Yeah except he wasn't as skillful or nearly as penetrative a bowler and much more reliant on his pace to get wickets which showed as soon as his pace declined, unlike Lillee who took 5WPM all stages of his career even after back injury.

And by more spread out you are referring to a handful of series in NZ, SA and Pak where he took 3WPM. It's not like Steyn who won game everywhere.
