these rankings are fully weird... u cant base a team over the last 3 years imho...

I mean south africa 2nd in the world ? lol
So how long would you rate things over, eh?

The trouble with just knocking something is that an opinion has no value unless you offer an alternative or a solution - then the criticism becomes constructive.

Good point. Theres no way SA are number 2 right now.
i think that shows how dominant SA were until recently. rest of the teams like nz, ind, sl who claim to be 2nd have been jumping up and down the order like a yo-yo. until they've visited NZ, SA were definitely a dominant side and i think its fair they get an extended run

Are you suggesting that Pakistan are claiming to be No 2 in the world at the moment (or at any time since the World Cup?)
Nope but The guy forgot to mention Pak in his list so I thought he forgot Pakistan exists . so wanted to put the record .

maybe the last year.. year and a half.

3 years is far 2 long.. teams change ... 3 years ago the cricket world was NOTHING like it is today... well except for aussie being first.....

If you're only going to go for a year, that means that some sides might have only played 4 series, maybe against only 2 or 3 opponents.

Why not, the ICC ratings do this as well. But probably the biggest weakness of the ICC ratings is they don't consider if you have played anyone within the set time limit. "Thus once a year, the rankings will change overnight without any new ODIs being played". What a strange phenomenon!

New Zealand aren't exactly unstoppable at the moment - they lost 3-0 in Australia and 5-0 in Pakistan in the last year.

One year is not enough to base the rankings on - England only played 13 ODIs in the previous ranking period - 7 against West Indies, 3 against Bangladesh, 2 against New Zealand and 1 against Sri Lanka. With the random nature of ODIs that is not nearly enough to give a guide to England's form or ability.

OK well the Champions Trophy has come and gone, and WI were the surprise winners. Ranked 8th going into the tournament they beat three sides above them on their way to victory.

Home
South Africa 1342 (-8)
Australia 1307 (+5)
Sri Lanka 1196 (+8)
New Zealand 1052 (+9)
West Indies 978 (+28)
India 947 (+8)
England 881 (-71)
Pakistan 833 (-11)
Zimbabwe 246 (+4)
Kenya 123
Bangladesh 32 (-1)

Despite reaching the final, England surprisingly drop two places in the home standings.

Away
Australia 1376 (+38)
Pakistan 1017 (-22)
South Africa 942 (-17)
Sri Lanka 933 (-1)
India 923 (-14)
England 895
West Indies 827 (+74)
New Zealand 815 (-6)
Zimbabwe 453 (-4)
Kenya 337
Bangladesh 43

Unsurprisingly, West Indies make huge gains in the away standings, and climb above New Zealand into 7th place. Also India drop below Sri Lanka who are now 4th.

Total
Australia 1341 (+21)
South Africa 1142 (-12)
Sri Lanka 1064 (+2)
India 935 (-6)
New Zealand 933 (+1)
Pakistan 925 (-17)
West Indies 902 (+50)
England 888 (-36)
Zimbabwe 350
Kenya 230
Bangladesh 38

So West Indies climb above England into 7th place overall, and Pakistan lose out, dropping two places to 6th. It's still very tight in the middle though, with less than 50 points separating 5 teams!

I should point out that games against USA were not considered as USA don't have ODI status, although as it turns out the poor records of Bangladesh and Kenya meant victories over these sides were as good as worthless also. Most games were played on neutral territory of course, which means they only count half towards the home rankings and half towards the away rankings, otherwise some of the changes might have been even more dramatic (a 50 point gain by the West Indies is really quite significant in one go).

The next update will be after the upcoming triangular series between Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, the final of which is on October 16th.
