Someone help me, I think my sides have just split due to the incredible wit espoused in post #161.

This is the second warning about your behaviour I've given in the last five minutes. You're on thin ice.

Have you read a single thing I've posted WRT your behaviour?

You also need to change your location as this is a family forum.

And, FYI, I'm 174cm and 68kg. Which gives a BMI of 22. So :p

Dear Long Hop, I just thought I should let you be aware that the poster to whom you replied above , did in fact get banned that night !!

But until he got banned it was some what funny because the guy was trying to spam by posting funny posts in all the threads in the forum (I mean all the threads in the forum) simultaneously !!

Neil was unhappy (and quite rightly) with his use of the English language , and hence he got banned (not sure for how long) . But it was very funny (I mean some of the exchanges I had with this guy) . See Devil Ducky's diary and you'll realise what I mean.

Just to steer this back on topic, I should point out that I haven't forgotten about the recent Bangladesh v New Zealand and India v Pakistan series, but the results simply had no effect on the rankings!

This is because Bangladesh have no wins under the current system so New Zealand's 3-0 sweep counted for nothing, while Pakistan won the previous series in India 3-0 so their one off victory also counts as a sweep and the points remain the same.

Next series is Zimbabwe v England which starts next week.

Well there's alot of test cricket going on at the moment but in the last month we have had two ODI series results:

Zimbabwe 0-4 England
Australia 1-1 New Zealand

England's series win replaced a 5-0 whitewash from their previous tour which means that series has no real impact on the rankings. However New Zealand lose their 3-1 win from the last time they were in Australia which strengthens the Aussie grip on the ODI rankings. :@

Australia 1334 (+57)

West Indies 862 (-7)
India 847 (-7)

Away
Australia 1522
New Zealand 1029 (-92)
Pakistan 987 (+6)
India 956 (+2)
England 950
South Africa 883 (+2)
Sri Lanka 806 (+2)
West Indies 680
Zimbabwe 394

Total
Australia 1428 (+24)
New Zealand 1042 (-46)
England 1036

Sri Lanka 989 (-2)
Pakistan 953 (-2)
India 902 (-2)
West Indies 771 (-4)
Zimbabwe 322 (-3)
Kenya 260
Bangladesh 14

So Australia open their lead up by another 70 to a massive 386 points! Pretty tight though for the next 5-6 places. There is plenty to play for in the next couple of months with lots of ODI cricket to be played:

Bangladesh v India (3)
New Zealand v Sri Lanka (5)
Bangladesh v Zimbabwe (5)
South Africa v England (7)
New Zealand v Australia (5)
South Africa v Zimbabwe (3)

So plenty of chances for team to improve their position as we head into 2005. :D

Well after Bangladesh's shock win over India, they record their highest ever rating, despite still losing the series 2-1.

Minimal effect on the rest of the rankings though, everyone even India being rewarded for Bangladesh being considered stronger opposition. Next up is the triangular series between Australia, Pakistan and West Indies and 7 ODIs between South Africa and England.

Can't understand South Africa's standing currently 4th in the ranking !!

Certainly an over rated position !

I guess it won't be too long before they come tumbling down the ODI rankings also (as they have done in Tests) !!

I don't understand it. It was a home win for Bangladesh, right? Yet their home ranking remains 0 whereas their away ranking has gone up considerably.

POINT !! Maybe the period which goes out was worse from point of view of away matches and similar for home matches (for ODI's).

Oh dear what a howler! :whistling Nice one Steulen though for spotting it! :detective :smartass:

OK, so lets see what really happens to the rankings:

Home
Australia 1325 (-9)
Sri Lanka 1165 (-7)
South Africa 1140 (-8)
England 1116 (-6)
New Zealand 1047 (-9)
Pakistan 914 (-5)
West Indies 858 (-4)
India 847
Zimbabwe 250
Kenya 176
Bangladesh 64

Away
Australia 1533 (+11)
New Zealand 1041 (+12)
Pakistan 999 (+12)
India 964 (+8)
England 963 (+13)
South Africa 895 (+12)
Sri Lanka 817 (+11)
West Indies 692 (+12)
Zimbabwe 405 (+11)
Kenya 357 (+13)
Bangladesh 27

Total
Australia 1429 (+1)
New Zealand 1044 (+2)
England 1039 (+3)
South Africa 1017 (+1)
Sri Lanka 991 (+2)
Pakistan 956 (+3)
India 906 (+4)
West Indies 775 (+4)
Zimbabwe 328 (+6)
Kenya 266 (+6)
Bangladesh 45 (+31)

Well the result is much the same but of course in the long run this will have an effect.

So a quick look at the upcoming games:

Bangladesh v Zimbabwe (5)
Australia v Pakistan v West Indies (9 matches plus 3 finals if needed)
South Africa v England (7)
New Zealand v Australia (5)
South Africa v Zimbabwe (3)

So we could see a fair bit of movement in the bottom three if Bangladesh keep up their recent form, and also with the top four all in action there could be some changes near the top of the table.

I can assure you it is not an overrated position. South Africa have won their most recent home series against every team bar Australia. They have struggled away from home, and that is reflected in their away ranking of 6th place. They are also helped by some pretty good neutral performances.

Overall you can see that the tale is very tight with not alot between 2 and 7 and there are regular position changes as a result of this. A look back to the early rankings a little over a year ago shows that South Africa were in a strong second position so they have struggled a bit of late, but personally having seen most of the current test series so far, I am reassured that South Africa will continue to be one of the stronger nations in test cricket for the forseeable future, and probably in ODI cricket too.
