There's not really anything to say about the next county championship match against Kent, apart from Total Domination and the fact that Nick Scott made his Frist Class debut. From the moment Kyle Wright struck with the 3rd ball of the match to when Mork swept off the bails to stump Saggers and seal the match, CW were thoroughly on top.

Kent had decided to bat and after Fulton perished for a duck, Midlane fell in the 3rd over also without scoring and also to Wright. The rest of the order was destroyed by spin twins Halsey and Chapman, the latter taking 5-30 as only Ealham with 49 provided resistance, Kent all out for 123.

The Web's innings got off to the best start with Blewy and Mork putting on 104, though worse was to come for Kent, as Nichani joined Mork to add 226 for the second wicket. Cloete then came in and hit 56 before Mork was dismissed for 193. The innings then subsided from 489-4 to 518 all out but the damage was done.

The second innings was harder work for the bowlers, but only marginally. Hockley hit 66 and Geraint Jones 42, but Nick Scott took his first wicket with the dismissal of Ed Smith and went on to remove Ealham and Hewitt for a decent debut performance. Chapman and Halsey shared 5 wickets as Kent were all out for 227. A win by an innings and 168. Mork Man of the match.

Second Test Squad selected and a certain propensity to change exhitbited by the selectors despite the win.

Bennett, Mork, Cloete and Richards earn call ups.

It was minnow time in the C & G trophy and the opponents were Hertfordshire at Shenley. With 4 players on international duty the selectors also decided to rest star spinner Chapman and so give opportunities to some of the less well known players. Eclipse came in to open the batting and Hoy took the number 4 slot. Neil Pickup replaced chapman and Camps came into the side, with Scott retaining his place, and set to make his OD debut.

Herts won the toss and decided to bat first, Scott struck in the 6th over to remove Henley, but Bradshaw and Koukoudakis added 98 with Camps taking particular punishment. The spin of Pickup and Halsey calmed things down with 5 wickets between them but the reappearance of Camps and Wright saw more acceleration though a late Scott delivery accounted for Hutchinson (62 from 55) and kept them to under 250. They scored 242-7 and might have sniffed a giant killing.

They certainly more than sniffed it when the Web slipped to 46-5, Eclipse got things off to a bad start with a duck and Blewy, Nichani, Hoy and Weber all failed. Gray and Halsey came together with the run rate rising and the tail exposed. They began cautiously, after 24 overs they were 65-5 but then they switch up from first gear to 5th and launched an awesome assualt on the inexperienced bowlers. They added 125 and gave the belief back to the web before Halsey went for a well made 54. Kyle Wright then hit 35 from 35 balls to almost win the match but the winning runs were fittingly hit by Gray as hit finished on 95*. A great escape and Halsey won the man of the match award.

Good comeback against Herts. Shame that I lost my form a bit in the Test, though...must have a Ramprakash-esque average by now...

Cricket Web v Lancashire
National League - D1 - 4 Jun 2004
**********************************************
With the England men back, the Web were ready to take on the mighty Lancashire, who were led this season by Pakistani legend Ul Haq. Indeed it was Ul Haq who was to cause the CW bowlers the biggest headache, though it was not of sufficient level to necessatate the need for ibuprofen. Lancashire counted veterans Lloyd and Martin amongst their number and their side did not look a shadow of its former self. Swann was the first to depart, beaten for pace by Patrick Nath. Lloyd and Ul Haq added 50 before Chapman span in to action removing Lloyd, Roberts and Carberry in quick succession before Halsey removed Schofield. Ul Haq passed 50 as Haynes offered support but he was trapped LBW by Chapman for 36 and Nath returned to snare Martin. nipping one back through the gate. Ul Haq finshed unbeaten on 99, his efforts in contrast to his teamates lackluster showing and not looking anywhere near enough to challenge the Web.

So it transpired. Despite Mork's early slog, Blewy hit a breathtaking 65 from just 29 balls and with useful contributions from Nichani(31), Hoy(33) and Weber(25*) the total was attained with 6 overs to spare. Chapman was named man of the match for his 4-46

Decent economy there (I hope) but still struggling for potency with the ball.
The second team scores don't really seem to relate to real matches, they also seem to be unlimited overs. FWIW you have bowled the most overs in the second team with 249, conceding 908 runs (ER 3.67) taking 28 wickets @32.43

Ouch at that. Do I want to know what my batting stats are? If they're as horrible as they probably are, just leave me be...

Big match came next, the semi final of the super cup, Northants the opposition. The selectors decided to pump some more experience in to the side, replacing Hoy with Craze and Scott with Wright. Captain Weber seemed to have been taking toss lessons from Michael Vaughan as he called Heads incorrectly. Northants decided to bat.

On a bright sunny day Northants looked set to make hay, they cruised to 93-0 after 18 overs and a big score looked odds on. Chapman, as he so often does, turned the game, first with 2 wickets in the 19th over, he went on to take 3 more to finish with 5-40. Halsey also played a part taking 2-40 and Richards proved the most economical, his first 5 overs costing 3 runs and finsihing with 1-20 from 10. A last wicket stand of 22 ensure that Northants used all their overs but their total of 189-9 was hardly satisfactory.

Batting proved somewhat easier for the Webbers, the crucial partnership coming for the second wicket with Vimes (67) and Nichani (90*) adding 130 and the Web romped home to an 8 wicket victory. MOM Chapman, another trip to Lords.

418 runs at 38.00 with a hundred and 2 fifties, not too bad.

And yes Håkon it was 5 from 3 balls.
