Im guessing it is to rank the players in order of best bowling in a test innings.

1. Laker 10/53
2. Kumble 10/74
3. Murali 9/51
4. Hadlee 9/52
5. Malcolm 9/57
6. Tayfield 9/113
7. Willis & Verity (TIED) 8/43
9. McKenzie 8/71
10. White 8/126
11. O'Reilly 7/54

Based on if the White in question is Jack 'Cornish' White

That can't be right. Off the top of my head, Warne has taken 8/71 and 7/23 in Test innnings, and yet doesn't factor in your list. Likewise, McGrath with 8/38 and 8/24.

Oh there have been players who definetly have better innings figures than some of those on the list. I was just ranking those on the list in order, I did not assume it was the list of the best in history just the rankings of those listed.

That would be great, it is just that SJS said it was an 'important' thing; that makes me think they are the best at this rating:)

I was thinking S/R or best ratio of wickets per innings bowled

Very close to the correct answer.

NOW. How do you rate an innings bowling as compared to another ??:)
