To pretend that Viv Richards faced the same pace examination as Gavaskar (or Border or Miandad or Gooch) is also patently false.

Peterhrt once posted that he averages 41/42 against them in WI. The problem is, it was when any one of the 10 pacers were playing against him, and that list included the likes of Tony Gray and Ezra Moseley. Averages mid 40s in County, though the bowler who got him the most (Garner) was his teammate.

Worth remembering Gavasker made runs in Australia against Aussie attacks which was arguably the worst Australian bowling attack in entire history. The only time he faced Lillee in a series, Gavasker averaged 19. Also not to forget a average of 28 in 5 match series while playing for World Xi in...
