The seedings will be based off these rankings, thats why I took the time to rank them. Just so there is a more objective way when seedings are concerned (not random), and there is a slightly better chance that we will be left with only the great innings towards the end.

In that case, the Kumble 7/48 could replace the Flintoff 5/78.

I am adequetly satisfied that 5/78 deserves to stay. Please nominate another innings to replace if you want Kumble to go in.

Laker -10/53 + 9/37 IMO

Yeah fair enough he took 10 in an innings.....but to then take 9 more in the next innings in the same match is phenominal.

Interesting little article on the Beeb about Laker's star turn today (it being 50 years ago this week & all). Link here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/5210204.stm

Two survivors (Trevor "Barnacle" Bailey & Alan Oakham) say it was as much Tony Lock's failure as Laker's victory tho. On the ultimate sticky-dog Lock was (incredibly) skidding the ball through! Bailey says,

"Tony Lock got so cross that he wasn't getting any wickets that he was bowling faster and faster.

So in actual fact he bowled as a seam bowler who never turned the ball. If he had slowed down he had to get wickets but his reaction was to simply skid the ball through.

Any spin bowler who was prepared to spin the ball was going to take wickets but Tony hardly beat the bat, while at the other end it was turning square."

Yea, I will combine them. It does seem odd to have two separate for the same match. So Kumble can get in on it too. The first battle will be posted tomorrow morning.

What happened to the one I put up? Or didn't they play Test cricket before 1921:@

Nothing 'happened'. If you want to nominate the two knocks, please also specify the two knocks that they would replace. I'm still open to making changes until tomorrow morning, and thats it.

Okay I would take Spofforth's 2nd innings bowling against the cream of English batting.

And replace this one:Glenn McGrath, 6/17 vs West Indies, GABBA 2000

A good effort but against a very poor batting side bar Lara :)

I don't know about that. 6/17 are exceptional figures. If they were against Bangladesh or ZImbabwe, I might agree with you. But I can't just straight up sub 7/43 for 6/17. Maybe you can nominate someone else? (Or if other people agree with you, I can sub it).

Basically the criteria for a sub would be clear difference in the quality.

One was against a side needing only 85 for victory, which lauched the Ashes tradition, the other against a side that was defeated 5-0 and were lucky to come that close.

I wanted to pick an innings to replace that I had watched, a lot of those on the list I did not witness :)

PS if it does make the list it was 7/44
