Battle of the Cricketers

Slow Love™

International Captain
Always hard when you've got an all-rounder against a specialist bowler or batsman (or keeper for that matter) in these comps, and it's one of the flaws of having them competing against each other. If it's in any way close, you'll always get "plus, he could bowl a bit" or "plus he was a pretty fair batsman too", and the all-rounder's home. Dunno how this can be resolved, really.

But I'm gonna give a lone vote to Bob Willis, because I think he deserves one. He was a great British quick with an excellent record, who never lacked heart and commitment, even if he looked so unlikely. Hell, I'll even defend him as a commentator, even though he seems much-maligned on that basis.

I've always thought Pollock was something of a pillock, and whenever I've been watching, he always seems to get injured or avoid the ball when the chips are down. His overall cricketing talent was definitely greater than Willis, but if I had the choice between the two of them for my side, I'd go for Willis.

Pedro Delgado

International Debutant
Yes, when things are against him he seems to go awol.

Another vote for Zimmerman here, excellent bowler and splendid hair to boot, and not a ginger b0ll0ck in sight.

Burpey

Cricketer Of The Year
Pollock. He is a fine cricketer but I always thought he had the talent to become a legendary cricketer instead of an swesome cricketer if you know what I mean

Weekes was known as the black Bradman by some. So he must have been a fair player, but Sobers for me.
George Headley, wasn't it?

I vote Bob Willis for this round.

State Vice-Captain
Pollock, purely because I havent seen much of willis....apart from when hes commentating, therefore you can understand my vote.

I think Pollock had the greater cricketing talent, more than a useful lower-order batsman & probably second only to McGrath as seamers go over the past ten years, but I have to go for the greatest (& probably most parodied) run-up in cricket!

Willis
