Bangladesh in South Africa

TT Boy, OT but IIRC you are bound to have Colly in your avatar for life, now I realise you've had him there for nigh on two years, but that's no excuse

Smith critical of Bangladesh...

“Three wickets down, they just shut up shop,” he said. “”I know 358 is a massive target, but they’ve got guys who’ve played 100 one-dayers, so there’s a lot of experience around, and to not even make an attempt to chase it down from the 20th over is bad for cricket, and it’s bad for Bangladesh cricket. So they certainly disappointed me today, although otherwise, they’re always improving.”

Fair comment from the captain, the Bangla boys tactics after Tamim was dismissed was just bizarre, padding up to Botha is one thing but even JP was treated with a dead bat.

He has already had a test against Bangladesh and didn’t cope too well.
Yeah, outbowled by Robbie P on that tour IIRC.

Strangely though, from what I've seen (admittedly not as much as I'd like to in the longer format) he has the batting talent and technique to play for South Africa as a batsman alone or at least a batting allrounder. I realise this is a fairly big call but I've seen him bat quite a few times now and I've been genuinely impressed.

His record obviously suggests this is extremely unlikely to ever happen though and rightly so: any theories on why he only averages 30 odd and has never hit a ton? Lack of concentration, or a technical fault I haven't picked up on?

Botha is used as a bit of sacrificial lamb for the Warriors, his raison d'etre is just to see off the new ball and then get out. Also I don’t think he takes his batting that seriously to the extent where he thinks he needs to knuckle down and push on once set. A hundred ball thirty odd is probably what he deems a good knock but as you say his got a good technique and isn’t the worst international number eight around.

Going to be a big few months for Johan, he has to perform against Aus and Imran Tahir is waiting in the wings...

Strikes me as being a surprisingly good captain at the international level too, granted that he hasn't really been tested though

Yeah I think we can all agree he'll never make the cut as a specialist bowler at international level (particularly Tests), but he's definitely a handy cricketer to have around. Seems to read the game well, can bowl somewhat usefully, is a good catcher and can perform several different roles with the bat.

I really wish he'd take his batting more seriously though, as I said before. Looks like he could be real good sometimes.
