Bangladesh in South Africa

Yes South Africa definitely the happier side going into lunch. Bangladesh at least didn't go round the park in the opening session, but could have caused one or two more problems in the opening hour than they did by employing a fuller length.

Alam generally bowled decent enough areas, lacking any pace to really threaten either Smith or Mckenzie, but barring his last over he never gave away too many 4-balls.

Shahdat has a ridiculous grunt when he bowls, which he starts letting out before he has even let the ball go!!

Love the way McKenzie uses such soft hands in defence, on a few occasions he has just dropped the bat on the ball and rotated the strike. He does make it look very easy out there.

What did I miss? My scorecard shows SA having lost zero wickets.
Indeed. If this is a good start by Bangladesh I would love to see them having a bad start.

South Africa showed too much respect which is understandable I guess, first test of the summer and all but I don’t see Captain Smith tit assing around after lunch.

Think these two are bedding in for a monster partnership. Been pretty much risk free cricket from the opening pair this morning, but I expect that run rate to climb steadily throughout the day. An over rate of just over 11 per hour is ridiculous though, I know they had a problem with one of the sightscreens but they should be making a more concerted effort to get the 90 overs in today.

Think 350 plus for today is still on... Smith isn’t going to hang around; he knows the wicket is flat and opposition even flatter whilst I don’t think Amla or even Kallis will be in block mode. Jacques needs to make a statement or two whilst Hashim is high on confidence and will milk the spinners at a fair pace.

Yes pretty much agree with that. From a SA perspective I hope they do really take the game to Bangladesh over the next 2 sessions and dominate them with controlled hitting and positive running. Would be very surprised if this Bangladesh attack can restrain SA should they choose to go into a more aggressive manner.

Also AD has been roped in to help out Steyn and Morne…

Good to see CSA reaching out but it could be case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
Yeah but not if your employing those kind of guys, fantastic that CSA seem to be behaving like they know what they are doing.. I think the only brain we are missing now is Gary Kirsten..

Nice to see some thoroughly boring cricket again from these two, grind them into the dust.. It's going to rain this afternoon though, the sky just looks like PM thunderstorm sky..

Yes Allan Donald was suggesting a storm is on the way. I've booked the rest of this week off work so I can enjoy the cricket, I have had enough of the rain throughout the English season!!!

60% chance of one according to Neil Manthrop but he expects that to arrive after play is finished for the day.

I hope it stays away for I told the G/F I'm busy tonight. She doesn't understand what cricket is or speaks very much English (none in fact) so I just said I'm washing my hair...

Haha.. You could have said you were going to violate her sister in the worst possible way in front of the cricket, and she would have been like "yup!"

Reminds me of when my french ex and her friend were in the car, me and my friend in the front were rating what they'd be like together out loud, very quickly..

Finally the partnership is broken. McKenzie going after a wide full one but not able to keep it down or find the gap, Shahadat Hossain with the breakthrough.

Was impressed with Mashrafe just after lunch.

Hashim Amla's come in and looked in really good touch. Generally bowled a little too straight to him, allowing him to work the ball off his legs with those trademark flicks, and has executed some delightful back foot punches through the off side.

SA have gone at over 4 an hour in the afternoon session, and the rain is now coming down, presumably prompting an early tea.

About another 100 odd more and South Africa should be looking at an innings job. I'm sure if South Africa had a bowl today what with the overcast conditions and the hint of green they would have caused some real problems for the Bangla boys, who seamers may have been economical but they have bowled far too short on a wicket with no pace.

Must say Amla has been so good, timing has been great and plays the spinners with so much time and ease.

Smith should look to step it up now, look towards an afternoon declaration tomorrow and the weekend off.
