Australian test selection thread 2015/16

It is difficult to agree 100% with the Aussie selectors decision but with Starcout I dont have a problem with them looking for a 145 bowler.

Did anyone see Boland vs WA? I just viewed the wickets so I mean he looked terrific against a fragile batting lineup, but watching just wickets is probably not the best indicator! Boland is unlikely to play but hopefully it fires up a few bowlers on the fringe of selection.

The other good thing about Boland being selected is its a win for fan boys.. if young Mark Renshaw makes a 65 ball 100 the Renshaw fans can now legitimately say, pick him for ODIs, okay maybe this isnt a good thing.

One guy who I dont think is close to selection (watch him get selected for the mcg now) is Chadd Sayets. Good, good bowler but he screams Shield Cricket is my peak like a Joe Dawes.

Faulkner was mentioned before but it is hard to fit him and Marsh in the same Test side IMO. I actually think Forkers best chance to debut will be if Marsh and Nev swap places and Nev performs and Mitch does not.

NCN's selection is justified on past performance but you couldnt have gotten two more varied ways to make an Australian squad.

In summary: read every word of this post.

One would hope you renshaw fans would know his name is Matt nor Mark...

Maybe Bolands selection is targeted at Boxing Day. They rest Haze and NCN slips on a banana the morning of the test. That gives a Siddle, Patto, Boland lineup to cater to the Vic's. Mass profit for as long as the WIndies can last.

Boland

vs NSW (game abandoned)
11-4-15-0

vs WA at MCG
19-10-25-2 (Batsmen 4 & 8)
17-6-39-1 (Batsmen 2)

vs WA at WACA
15-4-41-2 ( Batsmen 3 & 5)
11.2 -1-31-7 (Batsmen 2,3,4,6,7,9 & 11)

Don't know about speed but could do the the job as third seamer to tie down one end.
Is he the Siddle back up?

Serious question, though, who else? Johnson and Harris retired, all the good lefties are dead, Pattison is still trying on his new suit and Cummins has a glass spine for now. In terms of who's performing in Shield, it's all much of a muchness what they'll bring to the Test side so the selectors have, somewhat understandably, gone for a potential game-breaker to give him some experience if the current choices break under the strain or are nuffied by the surface.

If you're going to advocate Bird on form, Hopes comes into it too since he's been doing it for longer without injury and can bat. And I'm definitely not looking to pick Hopes in the 4 for any Test side. It's a crap-shoot at the moment.
Dougeh and Bird for a start. Perhaps The Chadd. (assuming Berendorff and Forkers aren't fit) And actually wtf not give Hopes a Test if it came down to it? The **** has been a massive servant of the game and you know one or two tests against the Windies whilst we wait for the a couple of the younger guys to get back on their feet. I can think of a LOT of ****s with baggy greens less deserving of them than Hopes. He'd probably get a 5-fer and a 50 against the Windies because that's just the kind of guy he is. We're only talking about a 'break glass in case of emergency' selection. Highly unlikely to get near an actual XI. But we have a way to go before we reach the absolute bottom of the barrel.

It's not that I hate on Boland btw. He's fine enough as a Shield bowler. But the **** doesn't even make Victoria's best XI. I think there are still quite a few guys who should be in front of him.

"Klinger couldn't have been more impressed with Boland though.

"Boland has been the best bowler in both games we've played against them," he said.

"He's had a very good couple of years so with a Test bowling spot up for grabs, for mine he's the next best bowler in Shield cricket who is available and playing.""

It was a surprise to read this.

Was disappointed when he was 12th in the first shield game but it was a choice of him or Siddle.

It would be a good thing to give Hopes a game.

Imagining I'm actually selecting here.

I have zero confidence with Mitch Marsh's batting and I'll eat my words because I thought he was going to become a really good batsman. He still might but currently he only has one gear. If Henriques and Faulkner are both injured I wouldn't hesitate to bring in Hopes at #7 as the all rounder, but I think an injury free Faulkner's time is fast approaching. Nev can go to 6 now.

Siddle and Hazelwood now must play. Patto will be third quick.

Shaun Marsh did enough in the final test against NZ to hold his spot for now but he's just seat warming for Khawaja anyway.

Is Faulkner good enough to be a Test number 7? Just looked up his stats and he literally only has 1 FC century.

If the NSP is now basing their selections on 'gut feeling' then surely the new chairman should be Merv Hughes.

Just did a bit of quick math and Mitch Marsh is averaging 11 over his last 12 test innings.

I know there's a bit of heat on his batting at the moment, and he's probably lucky Faulkner and Henriques are injured.

What about a bit of Stoinus?

I mentioned this in the domestic thread but Stoinis is more likely to replace Shaun Marsh, not Mitch since he currently averages over 60 with the ball and has 0/140 this season .

Fair enough. Just more as a guy who can bat top 6 and bowl a few overs as required.

I've just gone and picked Stoinis for the Test team in the Test/ODI/T20 thread I made because I really like his batting in the long format and with no injuries, the 5th bowling option isn't as important.

Tremain just took a Michelle but first change Boland could only manage a solitary tail ender. Does Chris now leapfrog him to the standby position for Hobart?
