of all the stupid **** that comes out of the australian camp, the 140k's requirement is the worst imo

Exactly. What was Haze bowling as he tore up? 135? He can crank it to 140, but he's better a bit slower. Johnson of course wasn't much threat under 145, so it's horses for courses. Siddle is just gash whatever the pace. ;)

Pure pace is a beautiful thing, but it ain't everything, and sometimes it can be next to useless. No one watching Brett Lee and McGrath bowling together was saying 'if only Pigeon was 15 clicks faster".

I didn't see much of Bananaman bowling in Adelaide. How was he? Serviceable accurate foil material or lacking any threat?

Amazing, Boland somehow gets in the squad and Saker finds issue with Coulter Nile's selection alone.

Never change Vics.

Former in the first innings, latter in the second innings was my perception.
Yeah Siddle was hard to fault in the first but performed below par in the second dig. He was suffering from back stiffness, if only the massuse was available to help out..

Boland is such a wtf selection. Much like Fekete: "ooh he took a haul once and has some pace. better pick him"

The Australian selectors have lost the plot completely. Time for a new panel.

Serious question, though, who else? Johnson and Harris retired, all the good lefties are dead, Pattison is still trying on his new suit and Cummins has a glass spine for now. In terms of who's performing in Shield, it's all much of a muchness what they'll bring to the Test side so the selectors have, somewhat understandably, gone for a potential game-breaker to give him some experience if the current choices break under the strain or are nuffied by the surface.

If you're going to advocate Bird on form, Hopes comes into it too since he's been doing it for longer without injury and can bat. And I'm definitely not looking to pick Hopes in the 4 for any Test side. It's a crap-shoot at the moment.

I'd be looking at Bird, Behrendorff or Sayers, for sure, ahead of Scott Boland. I think the three of them, given the game is being played in Hobart, can all be potential game-breakers. Then, I'd still probably go for Dougeh given the experience factor. Or pick Faulkner and be done with it

It's all rather immaterial, I suppose, because they won't play anyway. In which case I would consider Abbott/Sandhu as long-term project players who have far higher ceilings than Boland.

The comparison between Bird and Hopes seems weird to me as well. Not sure of the relevance at all.

I mean, the fact that they haven't stuck with Fekete suggests to me that this is flavour-of-the-month selection, to be discarded as soon as their ICC form bar drops below 3/4. Where's the player development or mid-term planning?

Yeah it's an odd one. Perhaps they're convinced on who the options for the future are so they'll go with funky flavour-of-the-month options until those guys are ready/fit?

Fact is though, Hazlewood and Siddle aren't exactly 140km/h bowlers. While on the one hand it could suggest Australia's looking for a bit of X-factor for their back-up quicks (which is why I'm not that fussed on the NCN call even though the timing isn't great), on the other hand surely it's a sign that pace =! success? If you're seriously arguing that Boland is a better bowler than Bird or Bollinger, a better package than Faulkner and more upside than Abbott/Sandhu then I'm not here.

Should stop giving out his bananas to the 3rd ump then.

The CA articles imply that Patto stays in the 12 and plays in Starcs place. So NCN and Boland won't play unless there's more injury or a resting. I'm assuming Haze has enough rest time before the next test.

Dunno how Forkers fell so far down the pecking order. He is pretty handy right now specially considering the batting
