Australian test selection thread 2015/16

The Battlers Prince

International Vice-Captain
The fielding I saw from Faulkers tonight just keeps building his case for selection in test cricket more and more. He is a great all round cricketer. I think if he takes up spin he could do it as well. I'm ok with Henriques or MMarsh, but I would much rather Faulkner.

Burns
Warner
Khawaja
Smith*
Voges
Neville+
Faulkner

Only a matter of time before Faulkner is in the team. Meanwhile I get the feeling that Maxwell is going backwards in the pecking order.

Faulkner and Maxwell both played County this year I think. Both must still be after more baggy greens.
They may yet play in the same test side

By the third game I heard the first mention that a players Big Bash form should get him in test team.

Happens every year

Does that mean Boland in the squad for the MCG then?
I think so. I dont think anyone has done anyrhing to overtake him since he was picked a ciuple of weeks ago. Especially with the Test being at his home ground and we arent exactly looking for an experienced guy to do a particular job.

I'm assuming he won't play unless we decide to rest Haze.

apples and oranges

NCN was in the squad as back up for Pattinson for pace
Boland was named as back up for Siddle for line and length

As long as Pattinson doesn't step on a cricket ball it wont matter.

Got to agree. It is different to test cricket but when you watch a bowler bowl or a batsman bat you get a feel for them & he just doesn't shout out international ability to me.

I reckon NCN would be a decent back up for Siddle. Sort of the plugging away back of a length sort. NCN may have pace but he strikes me as a work horse sort ? Not sure if he can bowl long spells though.

Probably have to keep filling the gaps until hopefully Cummins is back and stays injury free and when Joel Paris is ready.

If bowling or say being a reserve keeper wasn't a factor at all, who would you select as the second reserve bat for the NZ Tests if you assumed the top 6 who played the last Test plus Khawaja were selected?

I think it is a really difficult question to answer at the moment..

I'd be looking at Ferguson but unfortunately he's done his ACL.

If Lynn finds form in the second half of the season I'd go for him, otherwise Klinger.

But given the selectors have given random ****s like Boland goes, who knows....

Yes, Ferguson has gotten injured at the wrong time. I like how Victoria bat Handscomb at 4 ahead of Finch and Maxwell. He is currently, narrowly ahead in my view. There isnt an obvious option, Maddo is a decent shout.

"…certainly play Marsh".

I can't figure this out. Sure, bowling flexibility is important, and having a 5th bowler ideal, but surely averaging 20 at #6 is just not ok. And Faulkner has just made a good return for Tas. Runs and tidy with the ball.

Our selection can't centre around "we better pick Marsh at 6 in case a quick gets injured during the test". Surely.
You'd have been boned in the field without him at Adelaide.
